The materials arrived safely and we were able to dive deeper into the variables that impact photosynthesis in algae beads.\r\n\r\nStudents loved using the materials and were quick to understand the way the pH indicator showed whether the beads were performing photosynthesis or respiration. Student groups ran the experiment using different light filters so they could test the impact of different wavelengths of light on the efficiency of photosynthesis. Data was graphed by group and shared with the class. Students were then asked to predict what might happen if other variables were changed.\r\n\r\nThe algae beads are hearty; I have them saved and am planning on using them in a similar manner with my other class levels after the winter break. This particular lab was done with my AP class; after break I will do a modified version with my honors biology classes and my co-taught college prep classes.","fullyFundedDate":1757630759441,"projectUrl":"project/measuring-photosynthesis-for-all-learnin/9453759/","projectTitle":"Measuring Photosynthesis for All Learning Styles and Levels","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. West","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10074245"},{"teacherId":1016501,"projectId":9712804,"letterContent":"Thank you for helping us receive our new goggles and hot plates so quickly. The timing was perfect for our chemistry lab on polarity and melting points. It was nice not to hear my students quarrel over the best goggles. Better yet, it was nice to see every team have a working hot plate.\r\n\r\nLikewise, we had two more thermometers break down the week before these new ones arrived. Now, we have enough for every team to have their own.\r\n\r\nOf course, we always seem to need notebooks. Thanks to this grant, we have a supply for multiple classes across our department. Having both, small journal 4x6\" and 8x10\" notebooks has given our students options for their backpacks vs book bags. I wouldn't have expected it, but that is the joy of teaching, to see anew how our young people exercise their agency in learning.","fullyFundedDate":1759520859788,"projectUrl":"project/supplying-students-with-lab-and-classroo/9712804/","projectTitle":"Supplying Students With Lab and Classroom Necessities.","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Youngblood","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1016501_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1452982619969","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mryscience"},{"teacherId":8472544,"projectId":9606082,"letterContent":"When the boxes of supplies arrived it was like Christmas! Science classes are great because of the labs that we do. With ever shrinking budgets, gathering enough supplies becomes a challenge. This year with the Petri dishes that were funded we were able to allow students to do groups of 2 for our elephant poop lab instead of groups of 4. More hands on and more involvement means greater understanding of the concepts in a biology classroom. Students as well as teachers were excited when the boxes got here. It increased teacher interest in Donors Choose and how it works. It inspired some to put together projects that got funded as well! \r\n\r\nAs the science department chair at my school, every time I hear broken glass being tossed in the container, I just see dollar signs. Having my project funded has increased what my department can do this year and that equates to more meaningful chances to learn. Personally it made me feel like people care about what is happening in my classroom in my corner of the country. That someone I have never met found it important to contribute to my project. My project wasn't for complicated expensive science equipment, it was for some basic supplies like pencils that break down the barriers to student learning.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making my job easier. It means a lot to have someone willing to invest in my students and what we do in the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1757525337618,"projectUrl":"project/science-in-labergia/9606082/","projectTitle":"Science in LaBergia","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. LaBerge-Luhnow","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8472544"},{"teacherId":1016501,"projectId":9239724,"letterContent":"My students, especially the freshmen, were very glad to have notebooks to work with. Their parents were even more grateful that they had one less thing to worry about purchasing.\r\n\r\nThe volumetric flasks have helped our chemistry students see the thermal expansion of water in a dramatic way. Watching them get that \"a ha\" of why hotter temperatures are affecting sea level rise both by melting glaciers and expanding the volume of the oceans is always a delight. Then working with them to find a helpful way to model in 2D what this might look like at the particle level is always fun.\r\n\r\nAnd the new temperature probes have helped allow all if my students to work un teams of two to collect data for both thermal expansion (chemistry) & the albedo affect (Space Earth Science - freshmen).","fullyFundedDate":1745847058447,"projectUrl":"project/labs-for-everyone/9239724/","projectTitle":"Labs for Everyone","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Youngblood","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1016501_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1452982619969","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mryscience"},{"teacherId":8856641,"projectId":9551103,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for fulfilling our Occupational Therapy department's immediate needs as we begin this school year.
