More times than not, my students are overlooked because of their current placement at an alternative school. They feel lost and forgotten because of the mistakes they have made. In order to support healing and growth, I need for them to believe in themselves and their ability to make a change for the better. I need them to know there are still people in society that believe in them as well. It truly takes the whole community to make a change in the mindset of young people. They need to know one mistake does not define their character. They need to learn about accountability, remorse, and restitution. The need to know how resilience and making positive changes are the things adults need and expect to regain the trust from everyone. They need to understand there are still people who exist and are willing to forgive them, in addition to helping them grow and move forward. They need to learn there are strangers still willing to take a chance to let them prove themselves worthy of all the blessings life has to offer. A snack, a pencil, and clean clothes may seem minimal to some, but when you have lost hope, those small acts of kindness help us all pay it forward. When students come to me from places and situations most cannot even imagine, small things make miraculous things happen. My students are living proof of such power in small things!","fullyFundedDate":1740148129820,"projectUrl":"project/dont-overlook-the-alternative/9023496/","projectTitle":"Don’t Overlook the Alternative","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Idol","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7820184"},{"teacherId":564225,"projectId":8809860,"letterContent":"Thank you for providing the finances to help get the resources we need to offer appropriate clothing so our students can be in compliance with the school rules.
