I wanted each child to enter this new experience feeling prepared, supported, and, most importantly, confident in their ability to succeed. Thanks to your generosity, each student received their own collection of books, writing materials, and fidget tools to use at home. The materials were carefully gift-wrapped and delivered along with a special note filled with positive affirmations reminding each child that they were capable, important, and ready for the exciting learning journey ahead.\r\n\r\nThe children's excitement when they received their packages was wonderful to see. Opening something that had been chosen especially for them made the transition to learning from home feel a little more exciting and a lot less uncertain. The books and writing materials gave children opportunities to continue practicing early literacy skills, drawing, writing, and expressing their ideas, while the fidget tools provided an important sensory resource to help with focus, self-regulation, and the big emotions that came with such an unfamiliar way of learning. More than simply providing school supplies, these packages gave each child a collection of familiar, hands-on materials they could call their own during a time when so much around them was changing.\r\n\r\nAs my students moved forward into virtual kindergarten, these resources helped bridge the transition between preschool and their next learning adventure. My hope was that whenever they opened a book, picked up a writing tool, or reached for a fidget during a difficult moment, they would also remember the message that came with their package: **You are capable. You are a learner. You can do hard things, and there are people who believe in you.** Thank you for helping me send my preschoolers into kindergarten not only with materials to support their learning, but also with encouragement, comfort, and the confidence to take that next big step.","fullyFundedDate":1597680690184,"projectUrl":"project/jump-start-preschoolers-virtual-learning/5046518/","projectTitle":"Jump Start Preschoolers Virtual Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Saunders","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6823509_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1673312477929","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6823509"},{"teacherId":4955022,"projectId":9419675,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation. The colorful floor tiles with numbers are very popular. The children enjoy jumping on them to watch the colorful liquid move and change shape. They are light and very durable, making it easy for the children to pick up and carry around the room, changing the arrangement of the tiles on the floor. Some children have been lining the tiles up at the doorway and then using it to line up when it is time to return back to their classroom. \r\n The children have been very engaged with the colorful alien counters. The math table has been set up with a sorting tray, pom poms, the aliens and the pincher tool. The tool is very popular and is helpful for developing hand eye coordination and hand and finger strength. One of the children called the tool a \"portal\" as they moved the alien from the table into the sorting tray. \r\n Other items are engaging the children to work cooperatively with each other. The magnet tiles are being used to build enclosures for the astronaut figurines. As the children build they are using their imagination, adding kitchens and bedrooms to their enclosures turning them into a home where the astronauts can live. \r\n The children, education staff and I have been enjoying these STEAM room enrichments and thank you for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1757519990878,"projectUrl":"project/blast-off-help-fund-our-space-themed-s/9656418/","projectTitle":"Blast Off! During COVID, my students were learning from home, and one of our greatest challenges was finding ways to keep them connected to their teachers, their classmates, and the hands-on learning experiences that are so important in early childhood education. Thanks to your generosity, the books, science tools, art supplies, and learning materials from this project were carefully packaged and personally delivered to each student so that every child could have meaningful learning materials in their own home.\r\n\r\nThe excitement on their faces when they received their very own learning materials was something I will never forget. That excitement carried into our online learning sessions in powerful ways. Children would proudly hold up their books and supplies, eager to show what they had received, and they quickly realized that their friends and teachers had the same materials in front of them. This simple but powerful connection allowed us to read the same books together, conduct science investigations, create art projects, and explore new ideas as a class—even while we were physically apart.\r\n\r\nThese shared experiences brought a sense of normalcy and joy into a very uncertain time. They helped recreate the feeling of a classroom community in each child's home and reminded students that learning is something we do together. Even through a screen, we were able to maintain curiosity, engagement, and meaningful interaction. The materials you provided made it possible for children to stay actively involved in hands-on learning, which is especially important for kindergarten readiness.\r\n\r\nYour support helped us make the very best of an incredibly challenging situation. These resources allowed our students to continue learning through exploration, creativity, conversation, and play-based experiences while preparing for kindergarten from home. Families also shared how much it meant to have structured, engaging materials that supported their children's learning during a stressful and unpredictable time.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project reminded our students that even though we could not all be together in our classroom, we were still a learning community. We were still connected, still growing, and still discovering new things together. Your generosity helped bridge the distance between home and school and ensured that our children did not miss out on the joy of hands-on learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us stay connected, for supporting our students' growth, and for giving them moments of excitement, discovery, and normalcy when they needed it most.","fullyFundedDate":1589936073041,"projectUrl":"project/kindergarten-ready-from-home-the-new-no/4926505/","projectTitle":"Kindergarten Ready from Home; The New Normal","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Saunders","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6823509_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1673312477929","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6823509"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_113824","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":73,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":24,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":45,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":82.4,"schoolId":113824,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Greendale Head Start on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Greendale Head Start","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/worcester-public-schools/greendale/113824"}
