Before this project, sharing headphones or using headphones that did not fit comfortably made independent technology time more difficult for my first graders. Now, each student has access to their own pair of classroom headphones.\r\n\r\nHaving individual headphones has made a huge difference in our classroom. My students are able to work independently on learning programs such as XtraMath, SplashLearn, and digital reading activities without distractions from the sounds around them. They can listen carefully to directions, focus on their individual assignments, and work at their own pace.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have also helped my students become more independent learners. Instead of waiting for a shared pair of headphones to become available or struggling to hear their activity, they can get their headphones, plug them in, and get started on their learning. This may seem like a small change, but for first graders, being able to independently manage their learning materials is a big step!\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these headphones have given my students a better opportunity to focus and be successful. Our classroom is now a little quieter, our technology time runs more smoothly, and my students are able to spend more time actually learning.\r\n\r\nThank you to everyone who made this project possible! The students were so excited when our packages arrived. They couldn't believe the amount of support that we received for our classroom! The clock was essential. They asked me for months where our clock was and why we didn't have one. The best part is, it helps them tell time which is a skill many of them still do have concrete. It was really cool to see them use this and continue to use this every day! The bookshelves have helped our classroom look more organized and gives them more space to spread out around the room! During snack time, I don't have to worry about the kiddos that don't bring something from home. It's a little boost in their day that makes a big difference! They ask me every day to use a clipboard to sit around the room, and I've added a futon for them to sit on during instruction with the clipboards. I love giving my students access to choices! The pencils, crayons, binders, and shelves you provided have already made a significant difference. Every student in our elementary school now has their own listening journal, and our new shelves help keep everything organized and accessible for all of our classes. These simple supplies have helped transform our music room into a space where imagination and music come together every day.\r\n\r\nOur first listening journal activity was to In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg, and the students were absolutely captivated! Kindergarteners used their new crayons to draw what the music made them imagine, while first and second graders added short sentences describing their pictures. Third and fourth graders took their listening a step further by writing creative haunted house stories inspired by the music. It was amazing to see how the same piece of music could spark so many unique ideas! We will continue to do listening projects throughout the students' entire kindergarten through fourth-grade career, and then they will be able to take their journals home. I look forward to seeing how this impacts my students as they learn and grow.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly helped my students connect more deeply with music and express themselves through both art and writing.
