They worked in teams, and despite it being more math practice, they approached it with a new enthusiasm that I enjoyed seeing so late in the year. Early finishers got to work on a puzzle. One student who started his first puzzle slightly frustrated was helping others and explaining how the puzzle worked to a friend by the end of class. For many of them, this was their first encounter with logic puzzles generally. \r\nWe used the dry erase boards for review games, and students loved getting to use the boards as a way to show their work and showcase their answers. One team, who often weren't the most engaged in the classroom, answered and showed work for every question we did that day.\r\nThis year, we'll be making use of the dry erase boards during lessons and the puzzles for brain breaks and early-finisher activities. Keeping students engaged in math lessons helps prepare them to meet grade-level standards and succeed in high school and beyond. These snacks have been extremely useful and truly make a difference. They are especially helpful on days when students have to stay beyond their allotted time.\r\n\r\nSome of our students eat as early as 10:30 a.m. for brunch, so by the time they arrive at aftercare at 3:30 p.m., they are very hungry. A simple granola bar can feel like gold to them. The students genuinely look forward to receiving these extra snacks.\r\n\r\nWhile there are times when a student may not prefer a particular snack, they are always grateful for what they receive. Many of them even tell their friends about the \"cool snacks\" they get in aftercare.\r\n\r\nI am very excited to apply for new snacks for the upcoming semester.
