BrainPOP Jr also provides teachers with the materials to share interactive assignments, quizzes, and activities in numerous content areas, including science, social studies, reading, math, and more!\r\n\r\nBrainPOP Jr's animated movies give each student equal access to key background knowledge, while accompanying learning activities improve students' essential literacy skills and encourage them to show what they know in creative ways. BrainPOP Jr's library features characters like Tim and Moby, who explain complex topics in an accessible way for all students. While nothing will replace a great teacher, BrainPOP Jr's videos allow students to connect real-world knowledge, experience, and vocabulary. This is especially important for our English language learners who are developing their English skills and connecting them to their first language and vocabulary.\r\n\r\nWe know we're biased, but we believe that we serve some of the hardest working students in North Carolina. The moment they realized they had the right tools for the job, the energy in the room shifted. There was excitement, focus, and a real sense of purpose as they worked through new challenges!\r\n\r\nWhat stood out most was how much more independent and collaborative the students became. With enough tools to go around, they didn't have to wait or sit on the sidelines. They jumped right in, helped each other problem-solve, and took pride in figuring things out. They celebrated small victories, like loosening a stubborn screw or carefully removing a part without damaging it. \r\n\r\nThank you for making this kind of learning possible! Today, we displayed our \"Lions of the Month\" for students who are \"On the Rise!\" We asked teachers to identify one student from their class who is showing exceptional progress towards their goals. Students had their pictures taken with their certificates and the photos were hung in the hallway. We can't wait to celebrate our students for the rests of this year as they continue to make progress and growth. As you read in our proposal, one of our focus areas this year has been improving our student attendance rate. Since COVID, our attendance rate has hovered around 90% and we've had many students who are considered chronically tardy each year (missing more than 10% of the school year). This year we implemented several attendance incentives for students and classes as well as formed an attendance team to support families and encourage students to get to school on time every day! \r\n\r\nSo far, our attendance rate this year has increased almost 4 percentage points! Additionally, we have significantly cut the number of students who are considered chronically absent at this point in the year (missed 8 days or more). All of our 1st grade classes have received enough attendance cards for their first attendance party and we can't wait to celebrate them with you!\r\n\r\nWe know we're biased, but we believe that we serve some of the hardest working students in North Carolina. Their commitment to learning, each other, and their school is unparalleled.
