This goal of utilizing flexible seating has been on my mind for a few months now. I have noticed that students are engaged more frequently when they feel comfortable, not only with their peers, but their environment as well. For these reasons, I am requesting your help to fund flexible seating in our first grade classroom. These stools and cushions will provide flexible seating for students to be engaged and collaborate with one another. Six and seven year old children are very active and creative. By establishing these flexible seating areas, this will allow students to select a "best fit" spot for them to create and grow as first graders. One of the challenges with flexible seating can be to stay organized. Organization is a life skill that I want to teach all first graders. The mailbox system will help them to locate their important papers and supplies as we embark on this new flexible seating adventure. Think about yourself as a learner, how do you personally learn best? Is it behind a desk? Standing up and stretching your legs? Moving around to get the "creative juices" flowing? No two learners are the same. We all have our best learning environment and I want to create that in our first grade classroom.
