The carpet, pillows, bins and cart you donated have helped us stay organized, comfortable and focused! Before your donation came, we had supplies in random bins, unorganized and hard to find. Now, because of the bins and the rolling cart, we are able to have organized and labeled supplies which allows better accessibility to materials for students, and limited disruptions while trying to get new materials. Rather than students being unsure where to go and find materials, they are now labeled and organized so it is much easier for them when needed supplies, or math manipulatives, depending on what activity we are working on. \r\n\r\nWe are also so appreciative of the carpet and reading pillows! The students are able to sit on the carpet for read alouds, morning meetings, dismissal meetings, and other activities involving the whole group. They actually have space on the carpet which has limited disruptions, arguments and allows for more focus during lessons. Students are also a lot more comfortable with the pillows and the carpet, rather than sitting on the hard floor. They love when they get to sit around the room with the pillows to read, work on independent work, or just earn a pillow day as a reward! Overall, it has been awesome to have more comfortable seating options for the students. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for this kind donation to our classroom! It has truly made an impact on my students and classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1768531896631,"projectUrl":"project/welcoming-classroom-environment/10018425/","projectTitle":"Welcoming Classroom Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Simon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10403838"},{"teacherId":9363227,"projectId":9996745,"letterContent":"Board games have a positive impact on students in 1st–5th grade by supporting both academic and social development. Through playing games, students practice important skills like counting, reading, problem-solving, and critical thinking in a fun and engaging way. Many board games require players to follow directions, take turns, and think ahead, which helps strengthen focus and patience. These activities also reinforce classroom learning by giving students hands-on opportunities to apply math and literacy skills in real-life situations. We are incredibly grateful for your generous donation, which has allowed us to provide these new board games and expand engaging learning opportunities for our students.\r\n\r\nIn addition to academic benefits, board games help build strong social and emotional skills. Students learn how to communicate with others, work as a team, and handle winning or losing in a respectful way. Playing together encourages cooperation, sportsmanship, and empathy as students interact with peers of different ages and abilities. Your support has made a meaningful difference, creating a fun and inclusive environment where students can grow in confidence, develop friendships, and enjoy learning outside of traditional instruction.","fullyFundedDate":1768155775699,"projectUrl":"project/brand-new-games-matter/9996745/","projectTitle":"Brand New Games Matter","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lauren","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9363227_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1703021828038","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9363227"},{"teacherId":10403137,"projectId":10014889,"letterContent":"A huge thank you for funding our ukulele string project! It is so heartening to see our community invest in the arts education. My students were thrilled to hear the news, and we can't wait to get these strings on our instruments and start making music.\r\n\r\nI have begun to put the strings onto the ukulele's and have attached some pictures of them along with them in the hands of some students. With the colors, the students are enabled to learn faster, as they can quickly tell the blue from the yellow string, instead of figuring out the 4th from the 3rd string (or 1st from the 2nd). I am grateful for this resource and your support\r\n\r\nMusic indeed shapes and brings together a positive and responsible humanity. Their eyes lit up, and they eagerly asked, \"Are those for us?\" The novelty of the materials quickly turned into genuine engagement as they realized learning would involve moving, building, and interacting rather than simply completing worksheets.\r\n\r\nOne especially powerful moment occurred during a small-group math lesson on place value. Instead of solving problems on paper, students were invited to come up to the whiteboard and build numbers using the magnetic base-ten blocks. The entire group became animated and enthusiastic. They eagerly volunteered for turns, carefully constructing hundreds, tens and ones while explaining their thinking aloud. What is typically a challenging abstract concept became concrete, visual, and exciting. The level of focus and participation was significantly higher than in previous lessons.\r\n\r\nIn literacy, students are using sand trays and wooden tracing boards to practice spelling patterns and letter formation, while whisper phones are helping developing readers build fluency and confidence. Next, we will deepen our current place value unit by using the magnetic materials to compare numbers and model regrouping during addition and subtraction. In reading, we will transition from tracing and building words to constructing full sentences with magnetic sentence strips, allowing students to physically manipulate and revise their writing. These resources are not just tools—they are transforming how my students experience learning, turning effort into visible progress and building confidence with every hands-on success.","fullyFundedDate":1768419535593,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-minds-on-building-skills-thro/10012976/","projectTitle":"Hands On, Minds On: Building Skills Through Multisensory Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9349567"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_83090","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":348,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.4,"schoolId":83090,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Glenn A Duncan Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Glenn A Duncan Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/washoe-county-school-district/glenn-a-duncan-elementary-school/83090"}
