This spring, students will dive into graphic novels that bring classic fears and modern questions to life. Get ready for heroes, villains, and everything in between.\r\n\r\nI think it is vital that seniors understand what a true monster is and how a monster, even if it is the self, can affect all areas of a person's life. Monsters are not just boogeymen; they are what we fear the most. If we can teach them how to find the monster inside, we can teach them to face it and overcome it. \r\n\r\nThank you for helping my students see literature in a whole new way. These graphic novels will anchor our upcoming 'Classic Monsters and Modern Storytelling' unit. My students are already excited about analyzing heroes, villains, and themes through powerful visual narratives. Your support helps make reading accessible and engaging for every learner. These stories can help connect them to their own self.","fullyFundedDate":1755749944899,"projectUrl":"project/what-big-eyes-you-have-mirroring-the-mo/9331430/","projectTitle":"What Big Eyes You Have: Mirroring the Monster with Text","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Byrd","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1525869_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1452703443169","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/baldmisery"},{"teacherId":9067358,"projectId":9360976,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students now each have their own copy of In Cold Blood! Even some of my quieter students have surprised me with their insights, noticing details about the psychology of crime or the way Capote shapes his story.\r\n\r\nYour support has made this possible, and I'm so grateful. We started King Lear in a book without a modern interpretation and it was very hard for my students. KL is a tough one!! Once the books arrived, we switched to them and the students understood it so much better. It gave us the opportunity to look at the circumstances in the acts from when and what was happening during Shakespeare's time, as well as looking at how that same instance applies to today. That really helped the students make so many more connections. I cannot thank you enough.","fullyFundedDate":1745328115560,"projectUrl":"project/no-fear-king-lear-bringing-the-bard-to/9182711/","projectTitle":"No Fear, King Lear! With crisp pages and clean margins to annotate, my students are diving into the text with a new sense of ownership and curiosity. These new books have elevated our classroom discussions, allowing students to explore themes like revenge, identity, and moral ambiguity with confidence. For many of them, this is their first time truly engaging with Shakespeare, and it's opening doors to deeper thinking and meaningful connections to their own lives.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom looks like quiet concentration, shared laughter over Hamlet's wit, and heated debates about his choices. We're not just reading for plot—we're learning how to analyze language, recognize literary devices, and trace character development. Some students have even started quoting lines back to each other in the hallway, which might be my favorite teacher moment so far. One student, who initially said they \"don't get Shakespeare,\" recently stayed after class just to talk about Ophelia's arc—proof that the right tools can spark unexpected engagement.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make that magic possible. Your donation didn't just buy books—it helped create a learning environment where students feel respected, challenged, and inspired.","fullyFundedDate":1743804367344,"projectUrl":"project/reading-no-fear-shakespeare-hamlet-wit/9228885/","projectTitle":"Reading No Fear Shakespeare - Hamlet with Modern Text","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ostrom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9067358_orig.png?crop=424,424,x0,y31&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743712407409","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9067358"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_52453","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":301,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":88,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":68.8,"schoolId":52453,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Glen Rose High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Glen Rose High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arkansas/glen-rose-school-district/glen-rose-high-school/52453"}
