Comic books are a gateway to better reading skills for reluctant readers. My students love working on comics and animation in my art classroom. I am starting a library of young adult DC and Marvel books to help improve literacy scores through student interest. Students in my classroom like to read about superheroes and villains. My school media center does not have a large collection of books in this area, so I would like to have books that will hold their interests and keep them reading. My goal is for students to find reading fun. I want them reading more for enjoyment! Helping students to learn that reading is fun is the perfect way to build better readers. The Comic/superhero world is a great way to build a reading community for my art students.
