The materials from this project have helped me create a calming, welcoming space where my students can regulate, reset, explore, and feel safe when the demands of the school day become overwhelming.\r\n\r\nWhat makes this project even more meaningful now is that our classroom looks a little different than I originally expected. I began the year preparing to serve 2nd and 3rd grade students, but I was unexpectedly given 1st grade students as well. I now have students ranging from 1st through 3rd grade, with different academic, sensory, communication, and emotional needs.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, I have the flexibility to meet those needs in ways that aren't one-size-fits-all. A student might need a quiet space in the tent, another may need movement or sensory input, while another may simply need a place to take a break and reset before trying again.\r\n\r\nThese resources have helped turn a corner of our classroom into more than just a \"calm down corner.\" It has become a place where my students can learn what works for their bodies, practice self-regulation, and return to learning when they are ready. When my students walked in for Meet the Teacher, they immediately darted toward this space. It is safe and inviting, and while it may be a small part of our classroom, it is already having a huge impact.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly grateful that your donation is now reaching even more students than we originally anticipated. Thank you for helping me build a classroom where my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders can all feel supported, understood, and successful. ❤️","fullyFundedDate":1780518294886,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-tools-for-success-in-special-edu/10313484/","projectTitle":"Sensory Tools for Success in Special Education","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Reed","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10032339_orig.jpg?crop=1086,1086,x0,y148&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1780066974148","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-reed-in-sped"},{"teacherId":10029830,"projectId":9338147,"letterContent":"We are truly grateful for all the kindness and generosity we have received. Thanks to your support, my classroom is blossoming each day. The children are learning to be great friends by taking turns and sharing with one another through the activities we were able to purchase. The headphones have been especially impactful—allowing my students to participate in areas of the school that would otherwise be too overstimulating for their sensitive ears. Because of this, they are now able to join in and enjoy all school activities. \r\n\r\nWe had our first fire drill, and as we all know, this is an important safety practice. However, the alarm can be very loud, and some students experience anxiety from the noise. To prepare, we practiced the procedure in class and discussed the availability of noise-cancelling headphones. Several students requested and used the headphones during the drill—and they did amazing!","fullyFundedDate":1747097275045,"projectUrl":"project/a-circle-of-inclusion-always-shines-brig/9338147/","projectTitle":"A Circle of Inclusion Always Shines Brighter Than a Star","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Esparza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10029830"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_9629","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":483,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":34,"percentWhite":15,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":42,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":81.7,"schoolId":9629,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Giddens Steadham Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Giddens Steadham Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/garland-independent-school-district/giddens-steadham-elementary-school/9629"}
