As a middle school art teacher working primarily with minorities, recent immigrants, and at-risk students, your support has had an especially meaningful impact on our community.\r\n\r\nThanks to your contribution, my students—many of whom face significant challenges outside the classroom—now have access to high-quality art materials that encourage creativity and self-expression. The Buddha Boards have become a wonderful resource for practicing mindfulness and emotional regulation, helping students to find calm and focus during the school day.\r\n\r\nYour investment in our classroom has not only enriched our art curriculum but has also given my students opportunities to build confidence, express themselves, and discover new talents. We are truly grateful for your commitment to supporting education and creativity, especially for those who need it most.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your generosity. It felt great to leave for the summer with supplies and books for this year already secured. Students even enjoyed the Sharpies and fancy felt tip pens as we signed yearbooks during our 8th grade picnic last summer. \r\n\r\nOne of the most significant impacts of your gift was having more than two sets of books for our Oregon Battle of the Books participants. Students have almost a year to read 16 books before a challenging trivia competition in March. Giving them time over the summer to start their reading kept our energy high and focused on the competitive season ahead. \r\n\r\n\"The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.\r\n\r\nOBOB's mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.\r\n\r\nOBOB is run primarily by volunteers through the Oregon Association of School Libraries (OASL) and funded partially through the Library Services and Technology Act, LSTA. Students now have access to paints, brushes, watercolor paper and drawing materials, which has opened new possibilities for artistic expression and learning. \r\nCurrently, our students are exploring watercolor painting techniques while studying the works of renowned artists Louis Milo Jones and Alma Thomas. This combination of hands-on practice with art historical learning has been particularly engaging for our students. They are discovering how these influential artists used color, form, and technique in their masterworks while developing their own watercolor skills with the supplies your grant provided.\r\nWithout your generosity, many of our students would not have access to quality art materials and the chance to explore their creative potential.\r\nI am delighted to share photos of student artwork created with these supplies.
