What began as a science activity quickly became so much more. The students were able to experience the entire life cycle firsthand—from watching the eggs develop and waiting patiently for them to hatch, to witnessing the excitement of seeing those tiny chicks take their first steps.\r\n\r\nThe incubator brought so much excitement, curiosity, and learning into our classroom. The students eagerly checked on the eggs each day, made observations, asked questions, and celebrated every milestone along the way. They learned about responsibility, patience, life cycles, caring for living things, and the importance of working together. Most importantly, they formed a genuine connection with the chicks and learned what it means to care for another living thing.\r\n\r\nWhen it was finally time for the baby chicks to leave our classroom and go to the farm, there were definitely some very sad little hearts. The students had grown attached to them and did not want to say goodbye. Although it was difficult to see them leave, it was also a beautiful opportunity to talk about how we can love and care for something while also understanding that it is time for it to move on to its next home.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments came during our end-of-year share time when every single student said that hatching and caring for the baby chicks was their favorite part of the school year. Hearing that was incredibly meaningful. It reminded me that some of the most powerful learning experiences are the ones that create excitement, wonder, memories, and connections that children carry with them long after the lesson is over.\r\n\r\nThe incubator and our baby chicks truly brought our classroom to life. It was an experience filled with learning, laughter, excitement, responsibility, and even a few tears. We are using them during our center rotation for a fine motor station and they love using them. \r\n\r\nOur students were so excited to see that Pluffle moved when we poured it into the bins. They commented on how it looked like it was alive. They also were so excited when the saw the different animal figures that we had to add to sensory bins.
