When the materials arrived, my students were immediately excited, especially about the cozy wicker chairs and the soft green carpet. Several students asked if they could try the calming corner right away, and it quickly became a space they respect and value. One student shared, \"This feels like a safe place,\" which truly captured the impact of your gift.\r\n\r\nWe are now using the calming corner daily as part of our classroom routine. Students take short breaks to reset, practice breathing strategies, or reflect before returning to learning. The desk organizers have also made a huge difference, students are more independent and take pride in keeping their materials neat and accessible. During small group instruction, the rocker and stool allow me to move comfortably and stay connected with each group, giving them the support they need in the moment.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our learning, my goal is to help students build stronger self-regulation and independence skills. These materials are helping us create a classroom environment where students feel safe, focused, and ready to learn. We've had them for some time now and only one pair has gotten broken! I'm so glad I asked for higher quality and had the wisdom to store each pair in its' own one gallon ziplock bag to keep the wires from tangling. The kids love the microphone and now that I have children paired up with one on one tutors to help with remediation these are invaluable. They block out the noise and allow my kiddos to focus intensely while learning online. However I knew it was needed due to an increase in behavior concerns throughout the building. When I present the journals to the students, we talked a lot about being authors of their lives and how journaling/ writing their thoughts can help calm the noise in their mind, share their heart when no one is available, or just to doodle because doodling is fun. \r\n\r\nWe got to work decorating the front covers of their journals. I thought customizing them would create more ownership. They were very excited about that. Our first day of writing, we let them share about their day in written or illustrated form. Every week we placed the journals on the table as a station and watched.. Oddly enough, the journal table was a hotspot...and we were worried...lol. Some children willing shared journal entries with us which opened the doors of communication wider, empathy increased, and stronger/new friendships developed. \r\n\r\nI want to Thank You again for bringing mental stability to our space and increasing empathy in our hearts. Creating safe spaces for our students to unwind and talk through somethings was the goal and together WE DID IT.","fullyFundedDate":1738089035102,"projectUrl":"project/one-pencil-one-book-many-thoughts/9051363/","projectTitle":"One Pencil, One Book, Many Thoughts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9407487"},{"teacherId":9916472,"projectId":9099045,"letterContent":"I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your generous support in funding a printer for our classroom. Thanks to you, we now have an incredibly useful tool that's already making a difference in our daily learning.\r\n\r\nHaving a classroom printer has opened up so many new possibilities for my students. We're now able to print differentiated worksheets, engaging graphic organizers, student writing pieces, and even project-based learning materials right when we need them. It has made our lessons more interactive, efficient, and responsive to the students' individual needs.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most is seeing their own work printed out—especially their writing pieces. There's something magical about holding a copy of their story or poem in their hands. One of my students, who used to be shy about participating, is now proudly sharing her printed work with classmates. It's been an incredible confidence boost for her!\r\n\r\nThis printer has also helped us with creating visual aids for our EL curriculum lessons and anchor charts for classroom discussions. These printed materials are not only functional but also visually engaging, which has made comprehension and participation much easier for many students.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our classroom and in our students. Your kindness has made learning more accessible, exciting, and meaningful for all of us.","fullyFundedDate":1744314352837,"projectUrl":"project/colorful-creations-empowering-learning/9099045/","projectTitle":"Colorful Creations, Empowering Learning with a Printer","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. A","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9916472_orig.jpg?crop=990,990,x330,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753357637587","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9916472"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34946","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":404,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":89,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":69.4,"schoolId":34946,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about George Washington Carver Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"George Washington Carver Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/richmond-public-school-dist/geo-washington-carver-elementary-school/34946"}
