The books our classroom received will help the students learn. We cover many different topics including themes, summaries, and supporting ideas using details from our readings. \r\n\r\nEach day, the students enjoy reading at least 20-30 minutes. During this time, students create their own goals and use books to work on these goals. My role as a teacher is to help the students practice their goals and encourage them to strive to be better. \r\n\r\nWhat truly amazed me was that four students used a set of books from the donation and created their own reading group. They set up what should be read, deadlines, and had self-directed meetings to discuss what was read. It was great to see.","fullyFundedDate":1757443612979,"projectUrl":"project/books-are-the-key-to-learning/9453372/","projectTitle":"Books Are the Key to Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Nesbitt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4010182_orig.jpg?crop=1114,1114,x38,y26&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1612894853229","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-j-nesbitt"},{"teacherId":9607173,"projectId":8781113,"letterContent":"My students and I are so grateful for the generous donations to our classroom. When I shared that my project had been funded, I explained the concept to my second grade students and said that people they did not even know had wanted to help us make our classroom the best it could be. They were so surprised and curious!\r\nWe have been using the clipboards to making writing at the rug or around the room accessible. They are so happy when I tell them they don't have to work at their desks for a change! It really gives them the change of scenery they need, as well as gives them the opportunity to collaborate with different classmates. We recently completed a social studies assignment at the rug with them, where they could talk with friends around them and easily see the board I was working on. The book bins have been exactly what we needed to bring some organization to our classroom library. Students are able to pull a bin out to browse a specific genre instead of searching across the whole shelf. The sticky notes and scented bookmarks have been a fun little boost to get them interested and engaged with reading! They earned a scented bookmark of their choice, and grab sticky notes at our reading station in the room when they want to stop and jot during silent reading time. This is a skill that I teach, and they are excited to practice it with these new supplies!\r\nAs a new teacher, I cannot express how much Donors Choose has improved my ability to fill my classroom during this first year of teaching.
