This student did not have a violin and joined class later than others. This student came in every week without a violin and listened. Listened to others playing, listened to theory as I taught from a boxlight, listened as others struggled and finally made strides. Listened quietly and respectfully, soaking up information and waiting for her turn. \r\n\r\nDear donors, it was an exciting day when I told her, \"there is a violin for you\". It was an even more exciting day when the violin was given to her. She smiled and said, \"Thank you.\" The first time she played violin, all of her quiet listening payed off. She remembered fingers and notes, and while she struggled with the bow, I knew that one day it would not be a struggle for her at all. What I remember most, is her smiling and laughing as she held the violin for the first time. How carefully and slowly she put away the violin and bow; and object and experience to be valued.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting my students and our growing music program. This means that at each school, I was able to support at least 12 students in learning to play percussion (snare drum, bass drum, and bells). that is 36 students between 3 schools. The next school year, we were able to continue to support those 36 students and add 36 more for a total of 72 in one school year. Having so many drummers participate and be enriched by the program brought so much join to me as their teacher but also to the greater school community. So many people heard these students be successful. So many students took provide in their hard work.
