The non-perishable food items you provided are helping ensure that students have access to meals over the spring break when school resources are not available. This week, we carefully packed backpacks with items like cereal, pasta, soups, and snacks, and discreetly send them home with students in need. One special moment that stood out was when a student quietly shared how excited they were to have food to take home, saying it helped them not worry about being hungry. Moments like these remind us just how impactful your support truly is.\r\n\r\nThe students were excited to see all the stuff begin to arrive , their reactions were filled with gratitude and relief. Many of them feel more secure knowing they will have something to eat outside of school hours. Teachers have also noticed a positive change—students are more focused, engaged, and ready to learn because a basic need is being met. Your kindness is not only feeding their bodies but also supporting their ability to succeed academically and emotionally.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to continue expanding the Backpack Buddies program to reach even more students in need next year. We are also working on incorporating lessons around kindness, community, and giving back, helping students understand the importance of supporting one another. Thanks to you, we are building a stronger, more caring school community where every child feels supported. Many expressed how much it meant to have access to snacks without worrying about being hungry during the school day.\r\n\r\nI really appreciate the donation of these resources and the continued support of student success as we begin more rigorous lessons and projects this semester. The snacks, deodorant, and detergent have helped create a more comfortable, focused learning environment where students can concentrate on learning instead of worrying about hunger or hygiene. One specific moment that stands out happened during an afternoon lab activity when students were working in collaborative groups to complete a science investigation. In the past, some students struggled to stay engaged late in the day due to hunger or discomfort. Having access to snacks allowed them to refuel quickly and return to their tasks with renewed energy. Additionally, a few students quietly took advantage of the hygiene supplies before presentations, which noticeably boosted their confidence when speaking in front of peers. The detergent has also supported students who participate in athletics or after-school programs by ensuring they have clean clothing, helping them feel prepared and respected in the classroom.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reactions were a mix of surprise, gratitude, and relief. Several students expressed that they had never seen these types of supports offered in a classroom before. Others smiled shyly but later shared privately how helpful the items would be for them and their families. One student commented that having deodorant available made them feel more comfortable participating in group work, especially after physical education or sports practice. The snacks were immediately appreciated, with students recognizing that the classroom is a place where their well-being matters. What was most meaningful, however, was the sense of dignity preserved—students could access what they needed discreetly, without embarrassment. This fostered a culture of empathy and support, as classmates began encouraging one another and respecting the shared resources.\r\n\r\nThanks to donor support, our next steps focus on building consistency and responsibility while connecting these resources to student success. We are incorporating routines that allow students to access items respectfully and ensure supplies remain available for everyone who needs them. As we continue our current lessons and collaborative projects, students are learning about community responsibility, wellness, and how meeting basic needs supports academic achievement. We are also using this opportunity to reinforce life skills such as organization, self-care, and preparedness for school and extracurricular activities. Moving forward, students will participate in maintaining the resource area and discussing how community support can make a difference in people's lives. This experience has strengthened our classroom community and reminded students that they are supported, valued, and capable of success both inside and outside the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1766067763630,"projectUrl":"project/party-in-the-school-pantry/9664760/","projectTitle":"Party in the School Pantry","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2425923"},{"teacherId":9808217,"projectId":9511025,"letterContent":"Thank you for allowing me to have my own printer inside the classroom. We are truly grateful for your support.\r\n\r\nHowever, there appears to have been a misunderstanding in fulfilling our request. We originally requested a Power Sliding Compound Miter Saw, but we have received only the saw blade. While we deeply appreciate this contribution, we currently do not have the saw to use the blade with.\r\n\r\nThe saw itself is critical to our program, as it will enable students to engage in hands-on training with construction framing using wood. This training is vital, considering the growing need to prepare younger workers to enter the construction workforce and replace an aging population.\r\n\r\nWe will be resubmitting our request for the saw, but in the meantime, we want to express our heartfelt thanks for your kindness and generosity in providing the saw blade. These new texts have already made a remarkable difference in how my students approach reading. Many of them are reconnecting with literature for the first time in years—thanks to stories that reflect their lives, cultures, and challenges. With these books, we're able to dive into lessons on theme, character development, author's purpose, and critical thinking, but more importantly, we're opening doors for students to feel seen, heard, and valued.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading has become a shared experience. Students read in small groups, annotate with curiosity, and have thoughtful discussions about the choices characters make—and how those choices mirror their own. One student, who once said he had \"never finished a book,\" recently asked to borrow a novel to read over the weekend. Another wrote her first-ever book reflection, connecting the story to her personal journey. These moments are small victories, but they're deeply meaningful.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create a space where students feel safe to explore who they are and who they want to become. Labels and bins make it easier for students to find what they're looking for, and the cleaner space has encouraged more students to come in, browse, and explore.\r\n\r\nNext, my students will be starting a classroom project where they create book recommendations and displays for their peers.
