They really do better with hands on in this particular section and it helps them to have a physically tangible outcome to their programming.\r\n\r\nNormally, I do a lot of line based coding, but as their reading levels vary so much, I wanted to give them something where they could program with blocks, but be able to see the fruits of their labors. \r\n\r\nThey really have enjoyed making the robot go based on inputs such as light or sound. Additionally, they were able to program based on how much reflective light was coming to the sensor and begin able to see that small changes can have a big impact. \r\n\r\nSometimes in this class of students, the students are less than enthusiastic, but having fun while learning and feeling in control of what they are doing has drastically increased engagement!","fullyFundedDate":1746012520063,"projectUrl":"project/robots-for-good/9251987/","projectTitle":"Robots for Good!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Muller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1617729_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1453217559794","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missmullerfgpa"},{"teacherId":9923671,"projectId":9114003,"letterContent":"On behalf of the boys' and girls' basketball teams at Fort Greene Preparatory Academy, I want to extend our most heartfelt gratitude for your incredibly generous donation toward our basketballs. As a Title I middle school, resources can often be limited, and your contribution has made a significant difference in the lives of our student-athletes.\r\n\r\nThe donation of individual basketballs has had an immediate and positive impact on both our boys' and girls' teams. With access to their own basketballs, our students now have the ability to practice more effectively, both individually and on team drills. The increased practice time and personal responsibility have helped boost their confidence, skill development, and overall team dynamics.\r\n\r\nThis generosity has also helped foster a greater sense of ownership and pride in the sport. Our athletes no longer have to share shabby equipment, and it allows them to fully engage in practice and feel like they are valued and seen. What we didn't know was just how much the kindness and generosity of our extended community would shape the final result. \r\n\r\nBut your gift did more than help build a set or dress a stage. It gave our students the chance to shine. For many of them, this was their first experience performing in a theatrical production, and the confidence they gained will stay with them far beyond the final curtain call. You helped empower young voices, nurture emerging talents, and create memories that will last a lifetime.\r\n\r\nWe are truly grateful to count you as part of our community. Your support demonstrates what can happen when people come together to lift up young artists and inspire future storytellers. We hope you'll stay connected with us as we continue to grow our theater program and expand creative opportunities for our students.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your kindness, your materials, and your belief in what we do. Because of you, my sixth grade students had access to books that truly meet their needs and match their growing love for reading. No longer limited to titles far below their reading levels, they are exploring new genres, discovering favorite authors, and deepening their passion for literature.\r\n\r\nYour donation has done more than stock our shelves. It has given my students something many of them have never had before: a place to escape, imagine, and feel seen. For children who face instability at home or move from place to place, these books offer comfort, stability, and adventure. I have watched hesitant readers become regular visitors to our class library, excited to talk about their latest book or ask for recommendations. Stronger readers have stepped up as leaders, guiding their classmates toward stories that will speak to them.\r\n\r\nEvery book you helped provide is a door opened. Whether it leads to a fantasy world, a historical journey, or a character who feels just like them, each story gives my students the chance to grow, reflect, and enjoy the simple joy of reading.
