With the greenhouse, plants, soil, and supplies you provided, my students have been able to experience science in a way that goes far beyond a textbook.\r\n\r\nMy students come from a low-income community where access to fresh food and hands-on learning opportunities like this can be limited. Because of you, they are now able to experience something many of them have never had the chance to do—grow their own food and care for living plants.\r\n\r\nWe set up our first greenhouse right inside the classroom, and it has quickly become the heart of our daily learning. The excitement on the kids faces said it all. Tiny seeds have already begun growing into vegetables, and my students are amazed as they watch these changes happen right before their eyes. A few times each week, they carefully observe and draw what they see in their journals, capturing each stage of the growing process. These moments are building not only their science understanding, but also their confidence as young learners.\r\n\r\nMy students have taken real ownership of this project. They help plant the seeds, water the plants, and check on them each day. For many of them, this is their first time ever growing something of their own. They are learning responsibility, patience, and the importance of caring for living things.\r\n\r\nIn April, we are excited to expand this experience by setting up our second greenhouse outside and moving our growing plants into a larger space. This will allow our students to see the full life cycle continue and understand how plants grow in a natural environment.\r\n\r\nThe most meaningful part of this project is what comes next. When the plants begin producing vegetables, each child will be able to take home the food they helped grow. For many of my students, this will be a powerful and proud moment—to share something they nurtured with their families.\r\n\r\nYour support has created more than just a garden. You have given my students an opportunity they may not have otherwise had—one that is building life skills, sparking curiosity, and creating lasting memories. Thank you for helping our classroom grow—both inside and out.","fullyFundedDate":1769107319187,"projectUrl":"project/friendship-kindergarden/10028864/","projectTitle":"Friendship Kinder\"Garden\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Akines","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10406533_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768689697291","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10406533"},{"teacherId":9583130,"projectId":9097257,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my students are using their new resources every single day in our classroom. We've been reading our new books during small groups and independent reading time, and students are excited to explore stories they might not have chosen before. One of my favorite moments was watching a student proudly share a book they finished with the class and say, \"I didn't know I could read a book like this!\" The hands-on materials have also made our lessons more engaging, helping students better understand math and reading concepts through active learning.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up with excitement. They couldn't wait to open the boxes and see what was inside. Many students immediately began asking questions and sharing ideas about how they wanted to use the supplies. It was a beautiful reminder of how powerful it is when children feel supported and valued in their learning environment.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, my students will continue using these resources to deepen their skills and confidence. We are currently working on strengthening reading comprehension and problem-solving skills, and these materials are helping students take ownership of their learning. Thanks to you, my classroom is a more joyful, creative, and empowering place to learn. The posters are helping us build strong background knowledge, and the different types of cells to view under the microscope have taken our learning to a whole new level. One of my favorite moments was watching my scholars gather around the microscope for the first time—they were amazed to see real cell structures up close. It sparked so many questions, and it truly made science feel alive and real in our classroom.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived, the students were thrilled, especially when they realized we also received snacks and small rewards to celebrate their hard work. Their eyes lit up, and the room buzzed with excitement and curiosity. Because of your generosity, my scholars are more engaged and eager to participate in our science investigations. Our next steps include using the cell samples and posters to guide deeper discussions, model observations, and complete upcoming science labs.
