Your generosity has provided our students with brand new lunch recess equipment such as volleyballs, basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, pickleball paddles, pickleballs, playground balls and hydroplane flat soccer balls that students are using daily.\r\nStudents were not only excited to use brand new equipment, but they were excited to have equipment available versus waiting to see if a piece of equipment became available during their lunch recess. Students not only could play with their best friend, but they could play in multiple games of basketball, soccer, football, volleyball and pickleball. Students could enjoy selecting a sport without wondering if there is enough equipment available. Students have learned the procedure of checking out a piece of equipment from the equipment cart using their student ID just as they would checking out a book from the library. \r\nFrom observing students interactions during lunch recess, our lunch recess has demonstrated how students made team selections among students gathered on the basketball courts or the fields, choosing which activity they were going to play with their friends or classmates, sharing equipment with other students if one particular piece of sporting equipment was checked out which brought a smile to my face and incredible joy to my heart in seeing students interact in a positive manner. Students agreed on the rules prior to their game, students agreed on teammates, and students agreed on how their game was going to be played. This project has made students account for their choices by allowing them to make the decisions on their own. Adults supervised the lunch recess interactions, but the students held themselves accountable to the sporting equipment choices available and the choices made throughout their games.\r\nThe social aspect improved tremendously because students are learning and experiencing positive interactions during their lunch recess participation. Students are learning to take turns, share the courts and praise each other during their games and time together, create norms during their games, and respecting the equipment and their lunch recess monitors. Watching students joke with each other, praise one another, and share a good laugh with one another makes a impact on self-esteem as well as gaining social skills. It's great to see students focused on shooting a basketball or soccer ball, receiving a football pass, swinging a pickleball paddle or bumping a volleyball instead of holding a cell phone to watch a video on social media or causing mischief in the cafeteria.\r\nStudents are more focused upon returning to class because of their lunch recess activities. Students came off the courts and fields in better spirits because they shared time with friends in a positive way versus listening or reading negative rumors posted on social media. Students learn to see the good in their day versus focusing on a negative moment. Teachers noticed that students returned from lunch recess calmer, not only from the positive endorphins but from expelling excessive energy.\r\n\r\nOur lunch recess goes beyond just the physical participation of a game or an activity; it reaches their mind to make better choices, build friendships, learn informal leadership roles, gain a better perspective about others, learning to agree with others and learn to work and play with one another without judgements.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made this possible. Without the necessary equipment, our lunch recess would not exist.","fullyFundedDate":1770828260266,"projectUrl":"project/staying-healthy-staying-positive-and-s/10083830/","projectTitle":"Staying Healthy, Staying Positive, and Staying Focused","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Harvey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8372181"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58846","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":924,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":38,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":36,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"20.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":62.1,"schoolId":58846,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Fremont Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Fremont Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/mesa-public-schools/fremont-junior-high-school/58846"}
