The books and cozy seating have made a real difference in how our classroom feels during reading time. Second grade is such an important year for building strong readers. We are working on understanding characters, retelling stories in order, asking thoughtful questions, and using evidence from the text to support our thinking. Having engaging books that students actually want to pick up makes those lessons stronger and more meaningful.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom looks like students spread out with books, reading quietly to themselves or turning and talking with a partner. It is not always perfect or silent, but it is focused and purposeful. The soft seating helps them settle in and build stamina. The pizza theme makes it fun and gives our space personality. It feels like ours.\r\n\r\nYour generosity helped create a reading corner that is inviting instead of just functional. That matters more than people realize. When students feel comfortable and interested, they read more. And when they read more, they grow. Thank you for supporting my class and investing in their learning.","fullyFundedDate":1763474759007,"projectUrl":"project/a-tasty-slice-of-reading-comfort/9628723/","projectTitle":"A Tasty Slice of Reading Comfort!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Poeschel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6807819_orig.jpg?crop=1440,1440,x0,y86&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1696383947579","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6807819"},{"teacherId":6622214,"projectId":9540995,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donations to our class. With headphones and audio books, my students can listen and follow along with stories that build their vocabulary, comprehension, and love for reading.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, English is a second language or reading can be a challenge. Listening centers allow them to hear fluent reading and experience books they may not be able to read on their own yet. This boosts their confidence, supports independent learning, and helps them make meaningful connections to the text.\r\n\r\nListening centers also encourage small group collaboration and give me the ability to work with other students in small groups while knowing that every child is engaged and learning. Most importantly, they help every student see themselves as a reader and develop a lifelong love for books.","fullyFundedDate":1710357624079,"projectUrl":"project/ear-ye-ear-ye-listening-center/8230350/","projectTitle":"Ear Ye, Ear Ye! We created a fun and exciting classroom library. The pillows and decor have made the classroom's library a fun place to explore.\r\nWith these books, students develop critical thinking skills—analyzing themes, making inferences, and connecting literature to their lives. We've been diving into discussions on character development, exploring different perspectives, and even practicing creative writing inspired by what we read.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an active, engaging experience. Whether through small-group discussions, read-aloud sessions, or independent reading time, students are immersed in stories that challenge and inspire them. It's incredible to see them so eager to turn the page!\r\n\r\nOne student, Loyal, used to be hesitant about reading, but since discovering books he can listen too, he's been reading every chance he gets. Another student has started writing their own stories, inspired by a character they connected with. These moments wouldn't be possible without your support!\r\n\r\nThank you for making a difference in our classroom.
