One powerful moment came during our SEL block when we read a book on emotional recognition. A student who often has difficulty expressing feelings and understanding others' feelings shared, \"That's how I feel sometimes!\". This sparked a meaningful discussion on empathy and personal experience. The SEL books are opening up honest conversations and helping students build emotional vocabulary and interpersonal skills.\r\n\r\nWe've also integrated magnetic tiles into our math and science centers, where students collaborate to build imaginative structures. These hands-on experiences foster creativity and teamwork while reinforcing spatial reasoning and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nWhen my students opened up your contributions, their faces lit up with joy and curiosity! Students were especially drawn to the sensory tools. The weighted animals and textured floor mats immediately became favorites. One student hugged a weighted animal and said, \"It makes me feel calm,\" which reinforced just how valuable these tools are. The sense of ownership and excitement was incredible, and students have embraced the materials with respect and enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nWe're continuing to build on our SEL curriculum by integrating the new books into student-led discussions and activities. Students are working on strengthening their \"toolkits,\" where they identify strategies like using a weighted blanket or wearing headphones that help them stay focused and calm. Students continuously go back to their toolkits to use resources and strategies that work best for them. \r\n\r\nThese resources have deepened their understanding of self-regulation, empathy, and inclusion. With each resource, students are not just learning, they're learning how to care for themselves and one another.","fullyFundedDate":1739462857814,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-social-emotional-learning-in/9048441/","projectTitle":"Supporting Social Emotional Learning in an Inclusion Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Galante","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9891714_orig.jpg?crop=848,848,x168,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736786170550","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kgalante"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_97614","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":453,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":41,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":86.9,"schoolId":97614,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Franklin Roosevelt K-8 School - Lower on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Franklin Roosevelt K-8 School - Lower","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/boston-public-schools/franklin-roosevelt-elementary-school/97614"}
