Sensory stimulation is important for brain development and emotional. \r\nWe will be using the voice recording buttons during morning meeting to help with language development. We will also being using them for labeling items and requesting items as well. \r\n\r\nOur students need the weighted lap pads to help sit for longer periods of time and these will help with keeping them focused by creating a place for them to fidget while sitting appropriately. Some of the items we originally requested were unavailable, but we were able to get some alternative sensory materials and items that have been such a blessing to our kiddos. The sensory items and materials such as the sensory bins have been so helpful to make our sensory bin time more exciting and engaging for the kids with the thematic bins and different materials inside (e.g., sand, rocks). Additionally, the sensory tent has been helpful during our quiet time to provide students who do not nap to have a calm area to rest and relax during this time. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, the spin chair has been great for our kiddos to get the sensory input they need through spinning around on the chair. There are so many different ways they have discovered to use them. Some sit up in them and rock themselves, some lie on their back with their feet on the floor and use their feet to spin themself around as fast or slow as they like, some like a teacher to turn the disc for them, a few have stood in the disc and rocked back and forth and one even filled a disc with balls and spun the balls around!!\r\n\r\nThe foam ball are GREAT!! They are bright neon colors and bounce very high which the kids love. Lots of them are practicing their kicking skills and we are working on throwing and catching with other.\r\n\r\nI am so very thankful to everyone that donated to this project. I'm still waiting for the second one to arrive because waiting for a turn is SO hard for many of my little friends. But they absolutely LOVE it.\r\n\r\nI now have the wacky tracks which are a great fidget toy for those that need something to do with their hands. They are very engaging because they bend in all different ways and can be used to create lots of shapes.\r\nI just posted another project in the hopes of getting a couple of disc spinners. I grabbed a round sled at Target to try for my kids but it's way to flimsy.
