Because of your generosity, my students are no longer just sitting at desks to learn math—they are hopping, balancing, and physically stepping their way through counting concepts with our new number stepping stones. It is incredible to see their faces light up when they realize that learning can be a full-body experience.\r\n\r\nThe dry erase number lines and markers have become daily essentials, turning abstract addition and subtraction problems into visual tasks that my students can tackle with confidence. Meanwhile, the sensory tools and playdough are already helping students find their calm and focus during transitions, ensuring they are ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThanks to the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, I was able to download specific visual aids that match our current curriculum. Our next big step is moving from simple number recognition to active problem-solving. We are about to start a unit on subtraction, where students will use the dry erase number lines to visualize \"jumping back\" to find the difference. Because they have already physically practiced this movement on the stepping stones, they are primed and ready to transfer that knowledge to the number lines on their desks!\r\n\r\nMeanwhile, at our \"Calm Corner,\" the playdough and sensory materials have been vital. Just yesterday, a student was feeling overwhelmed and unable to focus. After five minutes of using the sensory dough to regulate his emotions, he returned to his desk calm, centered, and ready to pick up a dry erase marker to join the lesson.\r\n\r\nYour support has created a space where active learning and emotional well-being go hand in hand. I've already been bringing some amazing changes to my different music therapy groups and even sharing with fellow educators looking to make transformational changes in the classroom. \r\nSome of our most favorite activities that I've engaged in with students is non-violent communication. A form of listening and speaking that increased the ability to live with choice, meaning and form connections. I've seen it allow myself and others to connect empathetically with others in their relationships and truly bring an enriching way to communicate how we are feeling AND listening to one another. It's been an amazingly powerful tool!\r\nAlso, YOGA! I've learned to use yoga not only as a tool for movement, but also creating a mindful atmosphere. It's been enlightening to learn various ways to do one singular pose. To also share yoga movements in a way that are constructive to each student - sharing options and emphasizing ways we can use our breath to regulate our bodies. \r\nSome really exciting news! This training as inspired me and sparked a fire in me to continue on with getting a Masters Degree of Education in Transformative Teaching & Leadership. \r\nThank you again for all of your support!
