The new bookshelf has made our classroom library more organized and inviting, helping students easily find books and stay excited about reading. The standing desk has been especially helpful for me, since my computer connects to the projector. It allows me to move freely around the room instead of being stuck behind my desk, making lessons run more smoothly and keeping me more connected to my students. We also use the communication folders to keep families informed, and the pocket chart and number line support our daily math and literacy routines.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were thrilled to explore everything. The Picasso Tiles quickly became a favorite during indoor recess, encouraging creativity and teamwork. The suction cup fidget toys and stress balls have been wonderful additions to our calm corner, helping students regulate their emotions and refocus when needed. The scratch-and-sniff stickers have also been a fun motivator that brings lots of smiles. It was clear right away how excited students were to use these new tools.\r\n\r\nMany of these materials are already part of our daily learning, and others will support future lessons. The glue sticks and dry erase markers are used often for classroom projects. Next year, I plan to add the lined whiteboards and mirrors into reading instruction to support phonics and sound practice. They also love Elephant and Piggie books, Pete the Cat books, and everything we got. They are popular and fun to read and I love that they are an easier reading level so all students can access them and enjoy them. I really love having the nonfiction books, too. National Geographic books are high quality reading materials and students love nonfiction, so it's nice to have nonfiction books that are at their reading level as well. Because of your donations, students are engaging in hands-on, meaningful learning experiences every single day. The caterpillars have sparked curiosity and wonder as students observe, document, and discuss each stage of the life cycle. These real-world connections have strengthened their understanding of science concepts while also building skills in observation, sequencing, and descriptive writing. The sensory books and fidget tools have created a more inclusive learning environment, helping students stay focused, calm, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is now more interactive and accessible for all learners. With the addition of sensory books, students are not only building foundational literacy skills like letter recognition, vocabulary, and comprehension, but they are also engaging multiple senses, which deepens their understanding. During reading time, you'll see students exploring textures, pointing to words, making predictions, and sharing their thinking with partners. The lined whiteboards and new markers have also been a game changer, giving students a chance to practice writing, spelling, and sentence building in a low-pressure, reusable way that encourages risk-taking and creativity.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially benefited from these resources. Some who previously struggled to stay engaged are now able to focus for longer periods using fidget tools, while others are excitedly revisiting the caterpillars each day, eagerly sharing updates and asking thoughtful questions. The play-doh has also supported fine motor development and creativity, helping students strengthen the muscles they need for writing while having fun. They immediately began encouraging one another, saying, \"Keep going, color in our Pixel Chart for our Party!\" The resources have brought structure, motivation, and a shared goal into our classroom.\r\n\r\nOur class was actually called down to the office to pick up the Amazon deliveries! Each saying, \"More Boxes!\" each day they came after Christmas break. The reactions were pure joy and excitement! Eyes lit up, cheers broke out, and students couldn't wait to open each box. Every student was able to open up a package, including, their own clipboard/whiteboard. Their ownership in new materials has made for respect and responsibilities of new supplies! My class was so grateful that one I took the time to apply for engaging supplies, knowing that these materials were provided by generous donors that they have never met made the moment even more special. The students truly feel supported and valued. From day one, they understood these tools were helping them succeed.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are all about consistency, growth, and celebration! Students are working toward passing two personalized I-Ready Math lessons at 80% or higher, tracking progress, setting goals, and reflecting on their learning. We use it every single day, and it has truly been life-changing for our classroom community. Our old rug simply didn't have enough space for all of their little bodies, and it didn't give any kind of visual structure—which meant constant issues with personal space (or lack thereof!). This new rug has been the perfect solution. The individual rectangles give each student a clear place to sit, and the colorful border full of pictures and letters makes forming a circle so much easier—something that is surprisingly tricky when you're five or six! Instead of the daily chaos of trying to make a \"perfect circle,\" they now just find a picture or letter and poof—problem solved. It has removed so much stress and added so much joy.\r\n\r\nThe rug itself is absolutely beautiful. It is bright, colorful, and full of sunshine—exactly what me and the kids love! My classroom is full of colors and rainbows because I believe we all need a little brightness to carry us through our day, and this rug ties the whole room together. It truly feels like we have always had it. I can't imagine the space without it now. When it first arrived, the students were over the moon. They loved the colors, the pictures, and especially how soft it was. They were so gentle with it and treated it like a treasure. One of my favorite parts of this whole experience was that my Kindergarten aide—who is AMAZING and a retired teacher herself—helped me choose the rug. After it arrived, she realized it was the exact same rug she had in her own classroom when she taught. We laughed and said, \"Great minds think alike!\" Even the kids noticed because they've seen pictures of her classroom before!\r\n\r\nWe are so lucky to have such a supportive community that believes in helping classrooms grow through DonorsChoose. Your donation didn't just give us a rug—it gave us structure, comfort, organization, and so much happiness. In the future, I hope to request a full social-emotional learning package, because one of my biggest goals as a kindergarten teacher is to guide and strengthen social-emotional skills that kids don't always get a chance to learn anymore. Yes, I want them to grow into amazing students—but more than anything, I want to help them grow into amazing little PEOPLE first. Thank you for believing in our classroom, in my students, and in the future we are building together. I cannot express my sincerest gratitude for the generous support of the books: Wonder by R.J. Palacio and Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone. These two powerful stories left a lasting impact far beyond the pages.\r\n\r\nThe point of these books were to not only promote literacy but also diversity, empathy, and resilience. They have proven more than to open the hearts and minds. Through Wonder, students learned about the importance of kindness, acceptance, and empathy. Auggie's journey reminded them that everyone has struggles, and it's not always visible on the surface. They came to understand how vital it is to treat others with compassion and dignity, even when it's hard or uncomfortable.\r\n\r\nBlood on the River helped students promote literacy through diversity, empathy, and resilience by stepping into a different time. They see the hardships of others through the eyes of a child their own age. It sparked conversations about identity, injustice, and perseverance. Students began to see history not just as dates and facts, but as a collection of deeply human stories. They still carry meaning today.\r\n\r\nThe exposure to these books are done as a whole class, and as a whole class, I was able to witness their thoughts and struggles with many of the topics. Students could very easily relate and could empathize with characters. We discussed reactions to and tried to think of better ways to handle some of the conflicts. These became very good conversations. They learned that we don't always know what someone else is going through, and that every person deserves respect and understanding.\r\n\r\nYour donation made this possible. You gave our students more than just books. You gave them tools to become kinder, more thoughtful, and more resilient individuals. I just want you to know how much I appreciate your willingness to give back to teachers. I couldn't wait to apply because I knew exactly what I wanted to add to my classroom to enhance my students learning. I have noticed over the 20 years I have worked in and taught kindergarten, an increasing lack of fine motor skills when my students begin school. Many are unable to hold and cut with scissors, hold a pencil correctly, or even write with a pencil, as they have never been given the chance to try these tasks at home. I needed a way to help build stamina in my students while keeping it fun and engaging. I currently have 23 students in my class, the majority of which come from low-income homes. It has been a delight to see how these letter activity sets have helped improve my students' attention, concentration, and coordination. It is exciting to see them strengthening these fundamental skills without even knowing it. My students love working with the letter boards. We use them EVERY. SINGLE. DAY! They are having fun learning and they are happy as they do it. As a teacher, I can't ask for much more than that!
