Because of this project, every one of our 30 elementary STEAM labs now has the opportunity to place robots directly into students' hands-giving all children, regardless of background, a chance to see themselves as creators and problem-solvers.\r\n\r\nThe variety of robots funded through this project—Ozobots, Spheros, Bee-Bots, and Dash-has allowed us to meet students where they are developmentally. Younger students are beginning their coding journey with simple commands and color codes, while upper-grade students are applying more advanced programming and problem-solving skills. These robots have already been rotating among campuses, and the excitement has been undeniable. Teachers report that students are eagerly collaborating, testing ideas, and cheering each other on as they problem-solve together.\r\n\r\nOne powerful moment came when a group of second graders, who had never worked with robots before, programmed a Bee-Bot to successfully navigate a maze they designed. Their joy was contagious, and several students exclaimed, \"We're real engineers!\" In another STEAM lab, fourth graders used Sphero robots to explore geometry and angles, instantly connecting classroom math concepts to real-world applications. These experiences are not only deepening academic skills but also building persistence, creativity, and teamwork.\r\n\r\nFor many of our students, particularly those from underserved communities, these opportunities are opening doors they had never imagined. They are seeing that technology is not just something they consume-it's something they can design, control, and innovate with. That shift in perspective is powerful and lasting.\r\n\r\nThis project has truly been transformative. By placing these resources into every STEAM lab in the district, you have helped create equitable access to cutting-edge learning tools for all students. The impact extends beyond robotics-it is cultivating curiosity, building confidence, and igniting a passion for learning that will stay with students for years to come.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of our students, teachers, and community, thank you for believing in the power of innovation and for helping us create a brighter future for the next generation.","fullyFundedDate":1746783057135,"projectUrl":"project/building-future-innovators-elementary-r/9056907/","projectTitle":"Building Future Innovators: Elementary Robotics and Coding Adventures","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hurlbert","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9316453_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y504&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699620328010","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9316453"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_10588","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":648,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":85,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":22,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":59,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":10588,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Fox Run Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Fox Run Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/north-east-independent-school-district/fox-run-elementary-school/10588"}
