As technology has continued to creep into the lives of young people, time for reading has been pushed to the side. In addition, students also read a steady diet of text excerpts and short information texts within the ELA classroom. This is not fault of our amazing classroom teachers, it is simply the current classroom reality. In spite of all of this, children express a strong desire to hold a physical text in their hands and to read that text from start to finish. \r\n\r\nWithin the literacy realm, students' abilities to attend to text for long periods of time, make meaning from what they read, and discuss what they read with peers has grown as a result of this project. Kids eagerly pick up the book each day, excited to follow the characters' next adventures. Students are also engaging in meaningful conversations and discussing the plot as it unfolds.\r\n\r\nJust as importantly, the kids' social emotional well-being has improved as they make meaningful connections with peers. They are finding joy in being unplugged and talking with classmates. There are also great lessons that apply to real life learned from reading a great text.\r\n\r\nWe are very humbled by and appreciate your kindness and generosity.
