Each student has a dedicated folder where they keep reading passages, graphic organizers, sticky note summaries, and written responses. This has made a noticeable difference during lessons because students can quickly access previous work, revisit evidence from texts, and track their growth over time. One specific moment that stood out was during a group reading activity students were able to pull out earlier notes from their folders to support their discussion with strong text evidence instead of starting from scratch.\r\n\r\nWhen students first received their folders, they were very excited and immediately treated them as something important and \"official.\" Many of them took ownership right away, labeling their folders carefully and organizing their work with pride. For several students, especially those who previously struggled with keeping track of loose papers, this structure brought a sense of relief and confidence. They no longer felt frustrated by missing assignments or misplaced work, which allowed them to focus more on learning.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue building their reading comprehension portfolios inside these folders. They will use them to prepare for writing assignments where they explain theme and central idea using evidence from multiple texts. As we move forward, students will also reflect on their progress by comparing earlier work with new responses, helping them see how their understanding and skills are growing over time.","fullyFundedDate":1769958509418,"projectUrl":"project/folders-for-success-help-my-students-st/9999674/","projectTitle":"Folders for Success: Help My Students Stay Organized!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moletin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10223119_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756561013090","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10223119"},{"teacherId":10223119,"projectId":9999655,"letterContent":"In our reading classroom, students are now using sticky notes as an essential tool during group discussions to summarize their learning and track their thinking. After reading a text together, students jot down key ideas, evidence, or questions on sticky notes and then share them within their groups. These notes are then organized on charts or posters to build a collective summary of understanding. This simple routine has made a big difference in helping students slow down their thinking, focus on what matters in the text, and clearly communicate their ideas to peers.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the sticky notes, they were immediately excited. Many of them saw it as something real and important, like what older students or professionals might use. They were eager to write, move their notes around, and see their ideas displayed as part of the group's thinking. Even students who are usually hesitant to speak during discussions became more willing to participate because the sticky notes gave them a low-pressure way to contribute.\r\n\r\nNext, students will be using their sticky note summaries to build stronger paragraph responses about theme and central idea. They will take their group notes and turn them into complete written explanations supported by text evidence. This step will help them move from sharing ideas in discussion to organizing and writing clear, evidence-based responses. Over time, they will learn how to use their sticky notes as a bridge between reading, discussion, and writing strengthening their overall comprehension skills.","fullyFundedDate":1769177925067,"projectUrl":"project/the-power-of-sticky-notes/9999655/","projectTitle":"The Power of Sticky Notes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moletin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10223119_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756561013090","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10223119"},{"teacherId":10223119,"projectId":10059293,"letterContent":"Our new printing materials have made a meaningful difference for my Title I reading students, who need additional support in comprehension and engagement. Having access to printed texts, graphic organizers, and skill-based practice materials allows students to slow down their reading, annotate directly on the page, and better organize their thinking. This has been especially helpful for students who struggle with digital reading, as the physical materials reduce distractions and help them focus on understanding the text more deeply. I've noticed increased confidence as students are able to revisit the text multiple times and physically interact with key ideas.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most about these new materials is how hands-on and accessible they are. Many of them enjoy highlighting evidence, drawing connections, and completing organizers that guide their thinking step-by-step. It makes reading feel less overwhelming and more like a puzzle they can solve. Students often take pride in completing their work on paper because they can see their progress right in front of them, which motivates them to stay engaged.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who typically hesitate to participate in reading activities have especially warmed to these materials. One student, in particular, who often struggles with comprehension, has started volunteering answers after using the printed graphic organizers to map out his thinking. Others who are easily distracted during digital lessons are now more focused and persistent when working with printed texts. Your generosity has made a meaningful difference in our classroom, and I am excited to share how your contributions are helping my students grow as readers and thinkers every day.\r\n\r\nWith the pencils and sticky notes you provided, my students are now able to actively engage in our ELA lessons in a more hands-on and collaborative way. We use these materials during team tasks with summarizing mats and connecting new learning mats. Students write their ideas, important details, and connections on sticky notes and place them onto the mats. This helps them organize their thinking visually and makes their learning more interactive and meaningful.\r\n\r\nOne memorable moment happened during a group summarizing activity. Students worked together to identify the most important ideas from a text. As they added sticky notes to their mats, they began discussing and debating which details mattered most. They supported their thinking with evidence and explained their reasoning to one another. It was powerful to see how such simple tools encouraged deeper thinking, teamwork, and confidence in sharing ideas.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were genuinely excited. Something as simple as having fresh pencils and sticky notes created a sense of joy and motivation. They were eager to use them right away. These tools gave students a sense of ownership over their work and made them feel prepared and valued. Even students who are usually quiet became more involved because they could express their thoughts through writing and placing their ideas on the mats.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue to build on these strategies. Students will use sticky notes to track central ideas, gather evidence, and make connections across texts. We will also begin peer feedback activities, where students leave comments, questions, and suggestions for one another. This will help them strengthen their communication skills and think more critically about their work and the work of their peers.\r\n\r\nOverall, your support has helped create a classroom environment where students are actively involved, engaged, and excited to learn. These materials may seem simple, but they have had a powerful impact on student participation, collaboration, and confidence. My students are becoming more independent learners who are willing to take risks, share their thinking, and support their ideas with evidence.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and for helping create a space where learning is active, meaningful, and student-centered. When the books arrived, students immediately noticed how new and well-kept they looked. Many of them shared how excited they felt to finally hold books that were clean, complete, and inviting to read. Their enthusiasm was evident from the moment they opened the first page, and it truly inspired them to engage more deeply with reading.\r\n\r\nThese new texts have made a meaningful impact on both student learning and classroom culture. Through A Long Walk to Water, students are learning about perseverance, resilience, and empathy while also developing important literacy skills such as identifying central ideas, analyzing character development, and supporting their thinking with textual evidence. The story allows students to connect literature to real-world issues like access to water and global challenges, encouraging thoughtful discussions and critical thinking. With Lyddie, students explore themes of independence, courage, and justice while practicing skills such as analyzing historical context, understanding point of view, and examining how characters respond to challenges.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is an active and collaborative experience. Students participate in partner discussions, small-group conversations, and reflective writing activities that help them process what they read. They annotate passages, ask questions, and make connections between the text and their own lives. Instead of simply reading silently, students engage in meaningful dialogue where they share interpretations, respectfully challenge ideas, and build understanding together. These new books have made it easier for every student to fully participate because each learner now has access to a high-quality copy of the text.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were previously hesitant readers have shown noticeable growth and excitement. Some students who rarely volunteered to read aloud are now eager to participate during class discussions. Others have expressed curiosity about the characters' journeys and often ask if they can continue reading beyond assigned chapters. One student shared that the story in A Long Walk to Water made them appreciate resources they once took for granted, while another student connected deeply with Lyddie's determination and independence. Moments like these show how powerful the right books can be in helping students see themselves and the world differently. Thank you so much donors.
