Your support has provided my students with essential tools that are already making a meaningful difference in their lives. As a school counselor, I am always looking for innovative ways to help students develop the skills they need to manage their emotions, build resilience, and succeed both socially and academically. \r\n\r\nOver the past six weeks, I fully implemented The Zones of Regulation curriculum through a specialized small group for six students. Meeting twice a week, we focused on developing essential coping and self-regulation skills, including recognizing emotional levels, practicing deep breathing, and using mindfulness strategies.\r\n\r\nThe yoga mats you funded became a cornerstone of this curriculum! Yoga combines gentle physical movement, breath control, and mindfulness to help students learn to calm their minds and bodies. From the moment the yoga mats arrived, the students were absolutely thrilled! Every Monday morning began with the eager question, \"Is today a yoga day?\" Their enthusiasm was wonderful to see. By the end of our six weeks together, students learned strategies to slow down and regulate their own emotions.\r\nI have already observed encouraging improvements in student behavior, including an approximately 50% reduction in classroom distress calls. \r\n\r\nIn addition to our small-group work, I have been meeting individually with 17 additional students who need focused, one-on-one support to strengthen their self-regulation skills. The playdough, emotional puzzle, arts and crafts supplies, and coloring books you provided have been invaluable during these sessions. These materials offer students a safe, engaging sensory outlet for managing big feelings while creating opportunities for calm communication and emotional expression.\r\n\r\nPlaydough quickly became a favorite tool! Students use it to release excess energy, explore their emotions, and begin communicating feelings they may otherwise struggle to express. Gradually, I am seeing these children use more specific feeling words, begin solving problems independently, and look beyond surface-level anger to better understand the underlying feelings and needs contributing to their reactions. These are important steps toward developing greater emotional awareness, resilience, and independence.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I will continue meeting regularly with the 6 students from our Zones of Regulation group to reinforce newly learned skills. I will track progress through classroom distress calls, teacher feedback, and observations of students' emotional regulation and behavior. I will also continue individual counseling sessions with students. My goal is to build on the progress that students have already achieved. Ultimately, I hope to expand these practices to reach more students and create a calmer, more supportive school environment where children feel equipped to manage big emotions and thrive.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is making a lasting difference. Because of your support, students are gaining practical tools to find their calm, navigate challenging emotions, and build the confidence they need to reach their full potential. \r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and investing in their emotional well-being. I am deeply grateful for your kindness and the positive impact you are helping us create in our school. Your generosity means more than words can express!","fullyFundedDate":1784727156381,"projectUrl":"project/teaching-students-social-skills-sel/10381329/","projectTitle":"Teaching Students Social Skills (SEL)","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Susanne Meza-Keuthen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10552217"},{"teacherId":1146937,"projectId":10498753,"letterContent":"The materials that I received have been so useful and educational.\r\n\r\nThe rug that has the map of the United States has helped them not only learn the states but also locate them on a map. We are learning about the regions and this also aids them into where they are located.\r\n\r\nThe stools have allowed me to meet with more than one student at a time. The kids are super. When they are done with the stools they stack them neatly. I don't even have to ask. If a student has to join us on the rug and there's no room they politely get a stool and join us. They also allow volunteers to work with the students at their desk.\r\n\r\nThese additions to my classroom have truly helped out.\r\n\r\nI really appreciate it.","fullyFundedDate":1787174914409,"projectUrl":"project/new-school-and-new-grade/10498753/","projectTitle":"New School and New Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. DeChesere","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1146937_orig.jpg?crop=4284,4284,x0,y714&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1786893834866","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1146937"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1442","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":643,"numTeachers":56,"percentFrplEligible":67,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":22,"percentWhite":30,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.6,"schoolId":1442,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Forest View Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Forest View Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/durham-public-schools/forest-view-elementary-school/1442"}
