Although these heating plates arrived at the very end of the school year, our students' reactions told us everything we needed to know about the impact they will have. The moment the boxes were opened, students immediately asked, \"Can we hatch chicks again?\" They couldn't wait to see the baby chicks snuggled underneath the new heating plates.\r\n\r\nWhile we weren't able to put them to use this year, we already know they will make next year's chick-hatching experience even better. Our students will observe not only the miracle of chicks hatching but also how they naturally gather under the heating plates, just as they would under a mother hen. This will give students even more opportunities to ask questions, make observations, and connect what they're seeing to the life cycles and animal behavior they are studying in science.\r\n\r\nThe excitement wasn't limited to the classroom. Our principal was thrilled to see these arrive because they replace traditional heat lamps, removing a significant fire hazard from our chick-hatching setup. Knowing we can continue this beloved project in a safer way is a win for our students, our staff, and our school.\r\n\r\nNext year, these heating plates will become an important part of one of our favorite classroom traditions. Students will keep science journals, record observations, compare chick behaviors, and experience the wonder of caring for living animals in a safe, engaging environment.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in experiences that spark curiosity and create lifelong memories. When our new incubators arrived, our second graders immediately gathered around the boxes, full of questions and excitement. As soon as they realized what they were, the room erupted with, \"Can we hatch another batch of eggs right now?\" Their enthusiasm reminded us just how powerful this experience is and how much it means to our students.\r\n\r\nAlthough the incubators arrived at the very end of the school year, we already know the incredible impact they will have on our classroom. Hatching chicks has become one of the most memorable learning experiences for our second graders. In fact, at Meet the Teacher this year, one of the very first questions families asked was, \"Are we hatching chicks this year like the kids did last year?\" It is a tradition our students look forward to long before they ever step into our classroom.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has also made a tremendous difference behind the scenes. For years, we relied on old Styrofoam incubators that struggled to maintain the proper temperature and humidity. Every two hours, around the clock for nearly three weeks, Mrs. Stevens or Ms. Totilo would drive to school to check on the eggs, adjust the settings, and wait until everything stabilized. Some nights she only got a few hours of sleep, but she knew the experience was worth it for her students.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, that challenge is now a thing of the past. These new incubators will provide a much more reliable environment for our future chicks, giving them the best opportunity to hatch while allowing Mrs. Stevens and Ms. Totilo to spend their time creating engaging lessons instead of making late-night trips to school.\r\n\r\nWe cannot wait to see the excitement on our students' faces as they observe the eggs each day, record their observations, ask questions, and witness the incredible moment a chick breaks through its shell. Those moments inspire curiosity, spark a love of science, and create memories our students carry with them for years.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our classroom and for making this project possible.
