Having a broader selection also means I can help students find books that better match their individual interests and reading preferences.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is becoming something students see as a choice and a shared experience rather than simply an academic task. Students browse the shelves, recommend books to one another, and often become excited when they discover that a classmate is reading the same title. This is especially meaningful for students who have not always considered themselves enthusiastic readers. The new collection has given them more chances to find a story that genuinely captures their attention—and once they find that book, I get to watch the excitement that comes from wanting to keep reading.\r\n\r\nI am especially grateful for the way these new materials allow me to build a stronger culture of reading in my classroom. Instead of simply asking students to read, I can surround them with books worth talking about, sharing, questioning, and enjoying. And they are excited about it.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our classroom library has grown to include an exciting collection of new titles, from The Handmaid's Tale and They Both Die at the End to Project Hail Mary and The Hate U Give. These books have given my students something they desperately needed: choice, novelty, and the opportunity to find a story that feels like it was meant for them.\r\n\r\nI have seen a significant increase in readership since the new books arrived. Students who had already read many of the books on my shelves are suddenly browsing the library again, excited to discover titles they haven't encountered before. They pick up books, read the descriptions, compare recommendations, and ask me—and each other—what they should read next.\r\n\r\nBut one of my favorite changes has been watching reading become more social.\r\n\r\nWhen a student discovers The Hate U Give or Project Hail Mary, they no longer have to be the only person in the room reading it. Because we now have enough copies of popular titles for multiple students to read them simultaneously, friends can choose the same book and experience it together. They talk about characters and plot twists. They recommend chapters to one another. They wonder aloud about what will happen next. They come into class excited to tell a friend where they are in the story.\r\n\r\nThat may sound like a small thing, but in a classroom, it is enormous.\r\n\r\nYou haven't simply donated books—you've helped create a community of readers.
