Students learned the basics about printmaking with a Gelli plate during a lesson on landscapes and atmospheric perspective. The Gelli plates made this topic way more exciting, and the students were engaged in the process. The best part of the process is the peel and reveal. Students anxiously anticipated the results and were satisfied to see the final print. \r\n\r\nLater students had the opportunity to explore the materials and experiment with different techniques on the Gelli plates. Some students tried making a continuous contour drawing using a Q-tip on the plate. One student used glow paint on the plate to create a glow-in-the-dark print. Others tried different textured materials like stuffed animals, pieces of a pool noodle, coins, bubble wrap, and leaves. Magazine image transfers have been tricky, but we're determined to persevere. Printmaking with Gelli plates has been such a fun experience for my students.
