With the addition of all of the new outdoor materials the children now have more choices of activities during their outdoor time. \r\nAs soon as the new balls and hoop were introduced the children gasped and squealed!\r\n\r\nThe materials provide opportunities for the children to improve their gross motor skills, as they use appropriate size balls that are manageable to coordinate their bodies to throw, catch, and kick. The materials also encourage back and forth social interactions while children playa game of catch or cheer each other on as they try to make a basket with the new basketball hoop. \r\n\r\nThe magnifying glasses have been a big hit as well. The outdoor space isn't limited to physical activities. In our backyard space where the preschoolers play there are a lot of plants growing with the help of our custodian. The magnifying glasses allow children who want to spend their time investigating and exploring plants during our outdoor time to get a closer look. They have also been a great tool for looking closely at the little rolie polie bugs and ants that crawl around amongst the plants. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generosity to provide new materials for the preschool children. There were gasps when they saw the cartoon pens, scented fruit pencils, and mini pop bubble fidget toys.\r\n\r\nStudents used the reading rods to physically snap together prefixes and suffixes. It was incredible to watch students use rods to build a word, then use the brush tip markers to cold-code the root word. Students also used the story cues cards to put stories into a sequence and orally tell their story to each other.\r\n\r\nOur next steps will be to continue refining our accuracy using the OG tools to target reversals of b, d, p, and q and organizing student materials and tracking their personal reading goals using the mesh pouches and sticker reward charts. By providing everything from kleenex and disinfecting wipes to keep us healthy to the sequencing cards that keep up thinking, you have helped to create an environment where my students are ignited to learn and thrive.
