Our class is full of 27 first graders who are well into their 1st Grade year!\r\n\r\nI will say, the gold coins as a prize and the pencil sharpeners have been a huge hit. Students have learned how to sharpen pencils on their own and receive gold coins when they are following directions. \r\n\r\nWe do not have desks that open at school, the seat back pockets have been amazing in storing all of the students folders, workbooks, and other school materials. \r\n\r\nWith a class of 27, in a very diverse school, the carpet has served as a place for small group learning. Our classroom English Learner teacher pulls small groups in this place to give thoughtful instruction to students. \r\n\r\nRight now we are learning what it means to be a community member in Social Studies. We have been learning about families to help us ground ourselves in this work. As we dive deeper into our own community here in Alexandria, the students are learning how important it is to work together and celebrate our differences. We are currently pulling together family recipes to make a class cookbook! We have cuisines being shared from across the globe, many being shared in the students home language(s).
