I consider it my responsibility as an educator to foster a love for learning and reading in my classroom. Further, I consider it my obligation to provide access to inclusive and diverse reading material to my students. The classroom library I've started to build with the donations you made has made that possible. Daily, my students are able to choose an inclusive book from our donated classroom library and read about experiences similar to their own and different from their own. \r\n\r\nThe written word works as a mirror and a window; a mirror reflects our own experiences in writing, and a window allows us to see experiences different than our own through writing. I am intentional about setting aside at least 20 minutes per class period for reading to give students a chance to look away from tech screens and engage in a book of their own choosing. Students are encouraged to choose a book that interests them, and to swap out a book that does not hold their interest. Our reading time is all about choice and learning about themselves as readers.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for our classroom library, and I look forward to expanding it.","fullyFundedDate":1762484839593,"projectUrl":"project/mrs-ss-diverse-inclusive-classroom-l/9624289/","projectTitle":"Mrs. S’s Diverse & Inclusive Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Samuel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrssamuel7"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_134628","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":null,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":21,"percentWhite":41,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":false,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":134628,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Felton Grove High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Felton Grove High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/wake-county-public-school-system/felton-grove-high-school/134628"}
