The materials sparked curiosity and excitement, inspiring students to plant their own seeds and carefully observe the changes each day. They learned about the importance of sunlight, water, soil, and patience as they nurtured their growing plants. \r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this project was sharing our plants with members of our community. Students were proud to give away the plants they had cared for, learning valuable lessons about generosity, responsibility and the joy of giving back to others. \r\n\r\nYour kindness provided much more than the planting materials - it created hands-on learning experiences that fostered curiosity, scientific thinking, and community engagement. Your thoughtful gift has made a meaningful impact on our students, giving them opportunities to build important life skills through engaging stories, meaningful conversations, and creative art experiences. We are so grateful for your support and investment in our youngest learners.\r\n\r\nThe books you donated became much more than stories we read together. They served as the foundation for lessons about kindness, friendship, emotions, perseverance, and self-confidence. Every time we opened a new book, our students eagerly gathered together, excited to hear the characters' adventures and discover lessons they could apply to their own lives. These stories sparked thoughtful discussions that helped our children better understand themselves and the people around them.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite projects was creating a class community mural using each child's handprint. After reading books about belonging, teamwork, and celebrating our differences, students talked about how every person plays an important role in our classroom family. Each colorful handprint represented an individual student, and together they formed a beautiful mural that reminds us every day that we are stronger when we work together. The mural has become a symbol of acceptance, friendship, and the caring community we have built throughout the year.\r\n\r\nAnother memorable activity was creating a paper kindness tree. Inspired by stories about compassion and empathy, students reflected on the many ways they could show kindness to their classmates. Throughout our lessons, children added paper leaves to the tree, each one sharing a kind act they had completed or witnessed. Some wrote about helping a friend clean up, inviting someone to play, sharing classroom materials, or offering encouraging words. Watching our tree grow fuller with every new act of kindness was a wonderful visual reminder that even small acts of caring can make a big difference. The project encouraged students to notice opportunities to be kind every day and celebrate the positive choices they made.\r\n\r\nThe books also helped our students develop strategies for managing their emotions. After reading stories about recognizing feelings and calming our bodies, we created paintings that illustrated the power of taking deep breaths. Students used colors, patterns, and creative designs to show how breathing slowly can help them feel calm, focused, and ready to learn. These lessons gave our Kindergarten students practical tools they can use when they experience frustration, excitement, disappointment, or worry. It has been wonderful to hear children remind one another to \"take a deep breath\" during challenging moments, demonstrating that they are truly applying what they have learned.\r\n\r\nPerhaps one of the most powerful lessons came from our conversations about growth mindset. Through the picture books you provided, students discovered that learning takes practice and mistakes are an important part of growing. They embraced the idea of the \"power of yet,\" learning that just because they cannot do something today does not mean they will never be able to do it. Instead of saying, \"I can't do this,\" many students began saying, \"I can't do this yet.\" This simple change in language encouraged greater confidence, resilience, and persistence. We saw children become more willing to try difficult tasks, solve problems independently, and celebrate their progress rather than giving up.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of all of our Kindergarten students, families, and staff, thank you for believing in the importance of social-emotional learning and for investing in our classrooms. Your gift has inspired curiosity, creativity, resilience, and kindness in ways that will continue to benefit our students for years to come. We are deeply grateful for your generosity and are honored to have had the opportunity to bring these meaningful books and experiences into our classroom community.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping our students learn, grow, and believe in themselves—one story, one conversation, and one act of kindness at a time.","fullyFundedDate":1766950760987,"projectUrl":"project/pages-of-perspective-picture-books-for/9926164/","projectTitle":"Pages of Perspective: Picture Books for Social Emotional Growth","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8828791_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x846,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764561300376","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8828791"},{"teacherId":7985136,"projectId":9415676,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity in funding our project! The new recess materials have already made a meaningful difference in our classroom community. My students have been using the playhouse, soccer balls, and catching games every day to practice collaborative play, problem-solving, and gross motor skills. One of their favorite activities has been creating \"obstacle course challenges\" together—they take turns designing a course, cheering each other on, and celebrating everyone's successes. It has been a joy to watch them include classmates who are sometimes quieter or hesitant during free-play; the new equipment truly brings everyone together.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students' excitement was immediate and unforgettable. They crowded around the boxes with wide eyes and constant questions. Their energy and gratitude filled the room. As soon as we brought the items outside, they jumped right into exploring, inventing games, and collaboratively playing.\r\n\r\nThese new resources are already helping us build stronger social-emotional skills, and they will continue to support our focus on teamwork and communication. Our next steps include integrating the equipment into our structured cooperative learning activities and small-group SEL lessons. The students are also brainstorming new group games they can teach each other, and I can't wait to see the creativity that comes next.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. It's always fun to introduce something new, and having a few fresh options really helped keep students engaged and active during our most recent Recess Reimagined day.\r\n\r\nRecess Reimagined takes place each month, and these materials are helping us build a rotation of games and activities to keep things exciting. For example, the team-building tarp game and lawn darts are great additions that allow for both cooperative play and physical movement. We've started using the new supplies in small groups so students can explore and learn how to use them before introducing them to larger groups.\r\n\r\nNext, we plan to continue rotating these materials into our monthly events so students always have something new to look forward to.
