Over the course of 13 weeks students explored a wide range of topics relating to backyard homesteading and food science. Students had the chance to learn about animals that produce milk, and then made cheese and yogurt the following week. \r\n\r\nEach time we learned about different plants or animals, how to care for them, and ideal breeds for different situations, we created a related food product using the equipment that you helped me purchase for my students! We created yogurt using the immersion cookers, we canned clementines to create mandarin oranges, we made mozzarella cheese, beef jerky and more!\r\n\r\nMany of my students had no idea you could make these products at home, and none of them had ever done it before. After engaging in the lessons, students reported going home and trying it themselves with their families because it was so exciting to them. Without your support, I could not have given them this life changing experience. Thank you for seeing my vision and helping bring these concepts and skills into the classroom to hopefully continue them for more generations, and connect students closer to their food systems.","fullyFundedDate":1724423623954,"projectUrl":"project/farm-to-fork-exploring-backyard-homeste/8480062/","projectTitle":"Farm to Fork: Exploring Backyard Homesteading and Food Science","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nelson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9572623"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74529","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2153,"numTeachers":104,"percentFrplEligible":33,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":74,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"20.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.6,"schoolId":74529,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Farmington High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Farmington High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/farmington-independent-school-district-192/farmington-high-school/74529"}
