All three of our classrooms have introduced the aquaponic and hydroponic tanks to our students. We just learned about living things and our scholars were able to use that knowledge to be involved in a deeper discussion about how the aquaponic tank allows the fish and plant to survive together in symbiotic way. Most recently, our scholars were able to experience tasting lettuce that we grew in the hydroponic growing system. It was very exciting to watch their expressions in seeing the roots grow. For most of them, it was the first time seeing roots from a plant so now when we discuss the life cycle of a plant, our scholars can make connections based on this experience.
