Having organized supplies, clean materials, and designated tools for group work made our space feel more functional and easier to navigate. We put everything to use right away during our math centers. One of our first activities was a small-group project where students created visual models to show different multiplication strategies, and the new materials helped them stay organized and focused.\r\n\r\nSince then, I've seen a clear difference in how students use the space. They are taking more responsibility for keeping materials in good condition, transitioning between tasks more smoothly, and participating more confidently in collaborative activities. The overall environment feels calmer and more efficient, which has supported their engagement during independent and partner work.\r\n\r\nThese resources will continue to play a big role as we move into our next set of units, especially hands-on math tasks and upcoming STEM activities. Students will be using the materials to build models, create visual representations, and support their group discussions. There were gasps of amazement as they explored the various tools and resources. Their initial reaction was a mix of curiosity and eagerness to get started. Some students immediately began brainstorming ideas and asking questions about how they could use the materials to create something innovative. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and creativity flowing right from the start!\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, we are using the new STEM materials to enhance our understanding of engineering and problem-solving. Recently, we embarked on a project where students worked in groups to design and build a simple bridge using the materials we received. Each group was tasked with creating a bridge that could hold a specified weight while also being as aesthetically pleasing as possible. This project not only encouraged teamwork and collaboration but also allowed students to apply the engineering design process. They tested their bridges by gradually adding weight to see how much their designs could support, which led to a lot of excitement and learning!","fullyFundedDate":1733246329257,"projectUrl":"project/stem-for-the-classroom/8771936/","projectTitle":"STEM for the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Girardello","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9745653_orig.jpg?crop=1179,1179,x0,y204&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726505773676","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9745653"},{"teacherId":9739761,"projectId":8815814,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my ESE scholars with their reading. All three of our classrooms have introduced the aquaponic and hydroponic tanks to our students. Most recently, our scholars were able to experience tasting lettuce that we grew in the hydroponic growing system. It was very exciting to watch their expressions in seeing the roots grow. For most of them, it was the first time seeing roots from a plant so now when we discuss the life cycle of a plant, our scholars can make connections based on this experience.
