Your support has truly made a meaningful difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nTechnology like the Toniebox plays an important role in helping young learners grow. By giving students the opportunity to listen to stories independently, they are building essential literacy skills such as vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. It also encourages active listening and imagination, which are key foundations for lifelong learning. The Toniebox helps create a more flexible learning environment, allowing students to engage with stories at their own pace while I provide targeted support to individuals and small groups.\r\n\r\nWhat excites the students most about the Toniebox is how interactive and accessible it is. They love choosing different characters and placing them on the box to hear their favorite stories or songs come to life. This hands-on experience gives them a sense of independence and ownership over their learning, making story time something they eagerly look forward to each day.\r\n\r\nI have also seen particular students truly shine with this new technology. Some of my quieter students, who may not always participate in group reading activities, have become more confident as they engage with stories on their own. Others who are developing their language skills are especially drawn to the repetition of songs and stories, which helps reinforce their learning in a fun and supportive way.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has opened new doors for our students, helping them develop a love of learning and storytelling that will stay with them for years to come. So far, we've been using our sketchbooks once week on \"Wellness Wednesdays\" for meditative doodling. Sometimes, I start by giving them a quick tutorial of a pattern I want them to try, and they eagerly draw their interpretations of the pattern with Pigma micron pens or Sharpie markers. Other times, I present a theme, such as nature, or character-building traits such as gratitude, confidence, kindness, or curiosity, which engages students to make connections with big, abstract ideas and visualize them in ways that are vivid, personal, and which deepen understanding. \r\n\r\nIt's been so wonderful to see the students' artistic abilities develop and soar! In the coming weeks and months, we look forward to using our sketchbooks for some scientific explorations, including nature sketching and observations with microscopes. Thank you for helping to fund our project for digital arts and storytelling, which has inspired our classroom's creativity in so many ways. When we received the iPad last spring (May 2025), one of the first projects we began working on was stop motion animation videos using pattern blocks. Students learned so much about patience and teamwork while working on the animation process. \r\n\r\nNow that we are in the thick of Halloween season, we have been using the iPad to explore the spooky side of creativity! Our main project has been making digital recreations of Edvard Munch's \"The Scream,\" with students posing in place of the \"screamer,\" which has yielded some hilarious results. These recreations will be used as the basis for a writing prompt, \"What are some things that make you scream?\"\r\n\r\nOur class is excited to explore other possibilities with the iPad later on in the school year, including Book Creator to author our own digital stories, as well as performing readers theater, reciting poems, and making dance videos against a green screen backdrop. This project has revolutionized our classroom! I used to fret over the Proverbial Pencil Problem - many students' pencils would be missing, damaged, or completely snapped in two, every day. It's been nearly two months, and only three students have lost their pencils. As for the number of damaged pencils, that number has gone down to zero! The children truly care about their fancy pencils and are more attentive and careful with keeping them safe and in good condition.\r\n\r\nWe periodically measure our pencils as part of our supply management, and it's been such an engaging way to review our measurement skills with rulers. We are also thrilled to use our cute, new purple pencil sharpener, which is quick, efficient, and minimizes class disruptions. The students also have been delighted with the erasers and pencil toppers, and love the pencil grips, which have made writing so much more comfortable, especially for those with fine motor challenges and additional support with handwriting skills. \r\n\r\nThank you for giving to our project and being our generous \"pencil pal\" supporter! The Spot the Feelings box set quickly became a favorite, as we are learning about feelings and emotions. They also enjoyed listening to the inspiring stories of diverse icons such as Selena and Ritchie Valens. These stories truly resonated with them as they discovered the beauty of different languages, cultures, and traditions.\r\n\r\nAnother highlight was exploring books about different professions. After reading them, my students grew even more excited for our upcoming Career Day, sparking wonderful conversations about their own dreams for the future.\r\n\r\nYour support has made such a meaningful impact in our classroom, and I am deeply grateful for your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1746786183799,"projectUrl":"project/celebrating-diversity-and-social-emotion/9241655/","projectTitle":"Celebrating Diversity and Social-Emotional Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maria","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7879705_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1644286386913","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7879705"},{"teacherId":577070,"projectId":9238902,"letterContent":"Our end-of-year class party was this week, the perfect moment for me to give out my gifts to students! You should have seen their faces brighten when I explained what was inside the packages I had put together - the origami books you had donated for us, as well as the colorful variety of origami paper (each child got a \"starter pack\" of 10-12 sheets). I also included a postcard and a fun multi-colored ballpoint pen that were not part of this project, but which students could use to write a note to me over the summer if they wished. The students didn't waste time diving into their origami books. We haven't quite finished the school year yet (still got a few days remaining), so some of the children have been spending a bit of time in class practicing their origami skills while using the books as a reference. \r\n\r\nAll this to say, THANK YOU so much for making this spot of joy happen in our classroom.
