These notebooks have become a central place where students organize their thinking, revise ideas, and build explanations as we move through each lesson. Having a dedicated space just for their science learning has helped students feel more ownership and pride in their work.\r\n\r\nThe whiteboards have been especially impactful during review and discussion. Because of your generous support, my 7th-grade English Language Arts students now have sensory tools, mini whiteboards, and voting paddles that make learning more engaging, accessible, and joyful. These resources are already part of our daily routines — students use the mini whiteboards during quick writes and class discussions to share ideas confidently, even when they're nervous speaking out loud. The sensory tools and fidgets help learners regulate their focus during longer reading and writing tasks, and I've seen students who usually struggle with attention stay engaged for longer periods. \r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were genuinely excited — some rushed to try out the voting paddles during our next \"agree/disagree\" activity, while others picked up the sensory fidgets and immediately used them to settle into independent work time. For many multilingual learners and students with processing challenges, having alternative ways to show their understanding has made participation feel safer and more fun. The joy and confidence in the room have grown, and students are more willing to take risks in sharing their thoughts, knowing there are tools that help them express themselves in ways that fit their own needs. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're using these new tools to deepen classroom discussions and support differentiated learning. Students are working on expressive writing and peer reviews, using the mini whiteboards to draft ideas before sharing them with a partner or the whole class. The voting paddles help us quickly check for understanding and guide instructional pacing so every learner feels seen and heard. Thanks to your support, my classroom is more inclusive, supportive, and engaging — and I continue to see students grow not just academically, but in confidence and community.","fullyFundedDate":1762266375826,"projectUrl":"project/ms-bs-inclusive-and-expressive-classro/9705600/","projectTitle":"Ms. B's Inclusive and Expressive Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McMahon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10254028_orig.png?crop=488,488,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757540859943","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10254028"},{"teacherId":10254028,"projectId":9823488,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping bring \"I Have Never Finished a Book in My Life!\" to life in my 7th-grade classroom! Because of your generosity, we now have a cozy reading nook complete with a soft rug and an exciting collection of books that represent diverse voices and stories from around the world — from The Hunger Games series to The Giver and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. My students are using these new resources every day during independent reading time, literature circles, and book talks. What's most exciting is that students who once said they'd never finished a book are now choosing to stay after school to read or tell me about the characters and themes they're discovering. \r\nDonorsChoose\r\n\r\nWhen the books first arrived, the students were absolutely thrilled! I'll never forget their faces when they saw titles they recognized and new stories they couldn't wait to explore. Several of them immediately grabbed a book and started reading right on the carpet, chatting with classmates about which ones they wanted to read next. The pride they feel in holding their own book and the excitement they have for finishing it has been one of the biggest joys of my teaching year.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're using these books as a springboard for deeper discussions about identity, choices, and empathy. Students are setting reading goals, writing thoughtful reflections, and even recommending books to one another. These included Native American book bundles as well as book books for mental health. Before we received these calculators, we were using cheap four-function models that either broke quickly or simply didn't have the advanced capabilities we needed for more complex calculations. My students were excited to use calculators with real scientific functions for the first time, and it quickly became clear how much of a difference this made in their understanding of math. They are now able to tackle calculations with fractions, decimals, and other advanced functions with much more confidence.\r\n\r\nIn fact, these calculators have become such an integral part of our classroom that we even created an enlarged version and affectionately named him \"Calkie.\" The students love to refer to Calkie, and it has become a fun and memorable part of our classroom routine. Learning how to use the special functions of the TI calculators was a new challenge, but it has helped boost their problem-solving skills and critical thinking. Seeing my students feel capable and confident in their abilities has been a rewarding experience, and these calculators have played a big role in that growth.\r\n\r\nI want to express my heartfelt thanks to all the donors who made this possible through DonorsChoose. Your generosity has given my students an invaluable resource that will aid them not just this year, but for many years to come.
