First Chapter Fridays allows my students to hear the first chapter of a book in hopes it will encourage them to read that book. While listening to the first chapter being read, students have a \"First Chapter Friday\" worksheet that they fill out which allows them to rate the book, make predictions and write down details. If a student is interested in the book, they are given a raffle to put in that book's bin. When their ticket is picked, then they are allowed to take that book home to read! Donor's Choose gave me the opportunity to have a variety of books to not only read for First Chapter Fridays but also allows my students to have more books to choose from my classroom library since we no longer have a school library. I can't express my gratitude enough that I am now able to read so many new books to my students. Have you ever completed a tough task that took a lot of focus and rewarded yourself with a cup of coffee? My students work so hard each day; on challenging content, when they are tired or hungry, even when they just miss their mom. Being able to reward their efforts with a small treat is the least I can do to let them know we recognize just how hard they are working.\r\n\r\nSometimes they arrive at school without having had the greatest start to their day. Food insecurity is rampant right now and students learn best with a full belly. Thank you for your generous donations which have allowed us to have a variety of preferred foods - from a nutritious snack to just a fun sweet snack. These new bins featuring their favorite characters, such as Spiderman, Minecraft, and Disney, are used every single day.
