Four weeks away from completing my Breathe for Change yoga teacher training, I can say with certainty that it has changed far more than I expected. The program weaves together yoga, mindfulness, and social-emotional learning in a way that feels immediately applicable — not just to a yoga studio, but to a school library full of kids who are carrying a lot. I've been learning breathing techniques and grounding practices that I'm already beginning to bring into my library sessions, and the SEL framework has given me a richer vocabulary for talking with students about their inner lives, not just their reading lives.\r\n\r\nThe moments I treasure most are the small ones. Recently, a student came into the library visibly overwhelmed — it was one of those days. Instead of redirecting her straight to an activity, I invited her to take a few slow breaths with me before we did anything else. She looked a little skeptical at first, then a little relieved. By the time we picked out a book together, she was herself again. That's the kind of moment this training is making more possible. I'm learning that a library can be a regulating space, not just a reading space — and that those two things are deeply connected for kids.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I'm excited to grow my confidence in leading short movement breaks and mindfulness moments as a natural part of library visits across grade levels. I serve students from kindergarten through sixth grade in a Title 1 school, and I'm looking forward to finding the right entry points at each level — whether that's a breathing exercise before a read-aloud, a gentle stretch between activities, or a calm-down corner with simple mindfulness prompts. Thank you for making this possible. Your investment in my learning is already rippling outward into our school community in ways I couldn't have planned, and I'm so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1746782787392,"projectUrl":"project/wellness-tools-for-our-title-i-school/9291853/","projectTitle":"Wellness Tools for Our Title I School","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. DePriest","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1422301_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746160513371","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/depriest"},{"teacherId":1955136,"projectId":10122222,"letterContent":"I can't thank you enough for supporting my classroom. It turned out to be an engaging read for 2nd grade! As it turns out we haven't gotten much snow this year, but near the end of us reading this chapter book we got a good snowfall which was so exciting! Half of my class are not reading 2nd grade level on their own yet, so this book was a great way for the students to feel like they can read a chapter book too. The fact that they each have a copy now to try to read on their own when they feel ready, is a great support for their literacy as we all know K-3 literacy is crucial for their future paths of life. \r\n Before they take home the markers and sketchbooks, we are going to do some in-class directed drawings so that they can make some memories in their books before taking them home. They are also excited to pick out the color of their backpack as there is a great array of choices in these bundles. \r\n Donor, soon you will be getting cards that the class has made for you.
