The students are utilizing the tools available to them in a variety of ways specific to their individual needs. In addition to tools available to them at their own work spaces to help calm, regulate and manage time in a sensory friendly way, a calming corner and sensory stations have been set up within the classroom.\r\n\r\nIn the calming corner, students can take a break with their choice of sensory tools, such as a weighted vest, blanket or lap animal (the classroom favorite is a weighted sloth 🦥) or sit with then aquarium lamps and touch sensitive light wall tiles to decompress. A jumbo communication board is available here that allows students another avenue for communicating with staff and peers. The sensory stations change weekly to provide students with tactile experiences that help meet a variety of sensory needs throughout their school day. Tools are also available for students to have at their desks. Weighted vests, blankets and lap animals can be taken to the desk, along with lighted calming tools that guide students through breathing exercise to calm their nervous system. Visual timers are also available to help manage transitions that can be stressful for student. These timers help the students understand when a transition is coming and prepare for them accordingly.\r\n\r\nWithout your support, these critical supports would not have been possible. Your contribution made an incredible impact, allowing my students to gain valuable hands-on experience in suturing techniques, an experience they would not gain elsewhere and benefits them in their academic and professional journeys. With the materials provided, my students were able to practice suturing on the mats provided, refining their technique and building confidence in their skills. These practices were instrumental in helping them understand the precision and dexterity required in medical, dental, veterinary and many other fields. Students will also be given the opportunity to apply their suturing skills in a real-world context during our rat dissection lab. This experience will reinforce their understanding of the techniques needed in surgical aspects. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, we have had the privilege of using the suture materials in collaboration with Grand Canyon University (GCU). This partnership allowed students to engage with higher education professionals exposing them to potential career pathways. \r\nThe impact of these experiences has been so crucial. Many of my students are aspiring medical professionals, veterinarians, and researchers. The have gained confidence in problem-solving abilities and a deeper appreciation for how complex suturing can be. Your generosity has not only provided my students with tangible resources but has also fueled their passion for learning. \r\n\r\nOn behalf of my students and myself, I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and support.
