It is a necessary skill that people need to know so that they ensure that they are correct in their cash drawer if they are the worker and correct in the change if they are the payee. \r\n\r\nMy students have been given multiple ways to not only count change, but to figure out purchasing scenarios. For example, they have a list of items to purchase from grocery store ads, a certain budget amount to serve a party for a given number of guests, and a camping scenario where they have to purchase items that they need for a weekend camping excursion. This puts the \"game\" or learning in their hands. They figure out the cost and the cashier figures the cost as well.
