While many of us use tablets for scrolling through news or watching videos at home, in our classroom, these devices have been transformed into powerful scientific instruments.\r\n\r\nIn the past, our students were often tethered to bulky Chromebooks. With these tablets, the learning has become mobile and interactive.\r\n\r\nStudents used the tablets as the \"brains\" of custom-built microscopes they engineered themselves. By loading their own custom machine learning models onto the tablets, they moved beyond just looking at slides—they began teaching the technology how to identify specific plant diseases. This process forced them to think like both biologists and data scientists, refining their designs in real-time as they tested samples.\r\n\r\nThe \"cool factor\" here cannot be overstated. There is a specific kind of magic that happens when a student:\r\n\r\nBuilds a physical microscope.\r\n\r\nViews a microscopic sample on a high-definition screen.\r\n\r\nWatches their own AI model analyze that sample to provide a diagnosis.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for them was the instant feedback. Instead of waiting days for results or a grade, the tablets allowed them to see immediately if their model was accurate, prompting them to troubleshoot and improve their work on the spot.","fullyFundedDate":1767992966935,"projectUrl":"project/ai-enabled-microscopy/9987269/","projectTitle":"AI Enabled Microscopy","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Kniesly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7640997"},{"teacherId":8958649,"projectId":9095090,"letterContent":"I sincerely thank you for investing in this project.
