These texts introduce students to essential skills such as identifying emotions, developing empathy for others, navigating conflict, and building confidence in expressing their own perspectives. Through characters who face real-world challenges such as friendship changes, self-doubt, handling frustration, finding courage. Students are learning to talk about their own feelings with greater clarity and compassion. These lessons are deeply woven into our daily reading work, and these books give us the perfect anchor for rich conversations.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an active, collaborative experience. Students read independently, in small groups, and during whole-class discussions where they analyze characters' choices and connect them to their own lives. Our reading block often includes partner talk, journaling, role-playing moments from the text, and reflective circles that help students apply the SEL themes beyond the page. With these new books, those discussions have become even more thoughtful.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who typically shy away from reading have been especially engaged by these new stories. One student who struggles with emotional regulation was excited to read about a character learning similar skills and has proudly shared how he's using those strategies himself. Another student who usually prefers graphic novels has been eagerly recommending one of our new SEL chapter books to her classmates because \"it helps kids be better friends.\" These moments reflect exactly what we hoped this project would provide: books that resonate, teach, and empower our learners. Thank you for making this possible. Your support truly reaches far beyond our bookshelf.","fullyFundedDate":1723092371443,"projectUrl":"project/sel-book-bundles/8561207/","projectTitle":"SEL Book Bundles","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kamps","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3994894_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1476223385091","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-kamps"},{"teacherId":9297279,"projectId":8330367,"letterContent":"This project was so supportive for our class. Students had the resources they needed to start the year out on the right foot. One resource that every student loved seeing when they came in for the first week of school was seeing a name tag with their name on it. It gave them comfort knowing they belonged and had a place just for them in the room. As we continued to use the name tags students used the alphabet and number line on the name tag as a tool for learning.\r\n\r\nStudents were able to use many of the resources throughout the year to support their learning and motivation. One of the resources they used all year was the noise cancelling headphones. I had one student who used the headphones through fire drills to stay calm and even on field trips to be confident in going without their parent. Another resource that students used daily was the double sided whiteboards. Having these boards made a huge difference for our learners because they were able to practice handwriting in whole group and in small group on one side and then had the room to practice math problems on the other. The snack bin was also well loved by the students, there were always eager volunteers to carry it to and from snack time. \r\n\r\nBoth my students and I thank you for your generous donations.
