These tools, like fidget tools, the comfy floor seats, and core engagement wobble stools are now integral to our daily routine for students who need a moment to regulate their emotions or sensory input. A specific wonderful moment occurred during a recent lesson. One student, who often gets overwhelmed by noise, was starting to get frustrated. Instead of escalating, they chose to go to the re-focus room where they immediately picked up fidget toys and sat on a comfy floor seat. Within minutes, they were calm, regulated, and ready to re-join the class, demonstrating their ability to use these tools for self-management and emotional regulation.\r\n When the students first saw the materials, their reactions were a mix of excitement and curiosity. Many of them immediately reached out to explore the different items. Their faces lit up with smiles, and there was an immediate sense of engagement as they started testing out the various items such as the fidget toys, comfy floor seats, and the wobble stools. It was clear that these new, appealing tools provided a much needed and personalized way for them to manage their unique sensory and emotional needs.\r\n As our generous donors have helped us establish this wonderful resource, the next step in our classroom project is to focus on independent choice and generalization. We are now working on a lesson where students will not only continue to use the re-focus room tools but will also learn to articulate why they are choosing a specific tool. The ultimate goal is to help them generalize these coping skills beyond the classroom, empowering them to identify and seek out regulation strategies in various environments at home and in the community. This will give them a powerful tool for lifelong independence.","fullyFundedDate":1755546126362,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-support-for-diverse-learners/9603863/","projectTitle":"Sensory Support for Diverse Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Crosby","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10180396"},{"teacherId":10159801,"projectId":9548749,"letterContent":"Our \"Labor of Warmth\" mission is full under way. We went over our mission and who will benefit from the blankets. Many learned for the first time about the shelter and how they help others in their community. We color code setting, plot, and characters together as we read. The easel pads, markers, and color pencils brought our \"Pizza Text Structure\" anchor charts to life and will soon support our lessons on central idea.
