I remember the look on my students' faces when they walked into class and saw our brand new rug. They were so excited! As a first-year teacher, it means so much to have your support in creating an environment where my students feel valued and excited to learn.\r\n\r\nOur carpet has become an important part of our daily routines. We use this space for morning meetings, read-alouds, classroom discussions, and opportunities to build relationships with one another. The floor cushions also provide students with comfortable seating options during independent reading. I want my students to associate reading with curiosity, imagination, and enjoyment, and having a dedicated space to explore books is an important part of fostering that love of learning.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, I'm looking forward to using this space to strengthen our classroom community and encourage meaningful conversations about the books we read. My hope is that this area will continue to be a place where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas, asking questions, and discovering new interests. The whiteboard allows me to model problems, demonstrate strategies, and provide visual explanations while working with smaller groups of students. It has been especially helpful during math instruction, when students benefit from seeing problems broken down step by step.
