These high-interest books have already been thoroughly flipped through. Students have used them in lessons and during free reading. They have used these resources to improve their AI skills, and I am also continuing to improve my skills. \r\n\r\nLater this year, we will do our first full AI unit, exploring the benefits and pitfalls of this technology. After testing, students are only allowed to read, and usually that announcement brings a chorus of groans. But this time was completely different. As soon as the new books were unpacked, the covers caught their eyes, and suddenly everyone was excited to choose something new. What had started as a dreaded \"silent reading block\" quickly turned into one of the highlights of the day.\r\n\r\nBy the second day of testing, students were actually looking forward to finishing their assessments so they could get back to the books they had picked up. Some clustered together to point out fascinating maps, others were captivated by the illustrations in our big \"coffee table\" style books, and several who usually struggle to stay engaged in reading were completely immersed. It was such a joy to see students not only reading quietly but also eagerly sharing discoveries with one another.\r\n\r\nThese new texts have already sparked lessons in curiosity and self-directed learning. They support geography and global studies by encouraging students to explore different regions, cultures, and ideas, while also showing them how reading can be both informative and enjoyable. Most importantly, the books have given my students the sense that reading is something they want to do—not just something they're required to do. That shift in mindset is invaluable, and it happened thanks to your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1755701700781,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-book-update-expanding-their-w/9614984/","projectTitle":"Classroom Book Update- Expanding their Worlds through Words","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maksymowski","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9569946_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764671645783","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9569946"},{"teacherId":9627991,"projectId":8950696,"letterContent":"First, thank you for the books! These texts will live in the classroom for years to come and while the impact has been great already, the gift will continue to improve students' understanding of this topic for years to come.\r\n\r\nThe books for this project have already been used in several ways. Students are currently doing an independent research project which has them exploring the deeper subjects within this topic. These books have been a pivotal resource that has given background knowledge as well as deep insights. Students first experience with these books was a book pass, an hour-long notes-taking session where students took 10-12 minutes to deeply explore one book. After each note-taking session, students walked around, exploring for another book to repeat that deep note-taking experience. Both the reading session and the act of book selection are powerful learning experiences for students because of the challenge they present.\r\n\r\nStudents are absolutely enjoying these classroom novels. They are frequently being taken off the shelves and used in independent research. I plan for this to continue in the coming months and years. \r\n\r\nAgain, I must thank everyone who supported this project; it is truly a humbling experience to see a wide group of people coalesce around an idea.","fullyFundedDate":1736425103512,"projectUrl":"project/civil-war-classroom-book-set/8950696/","projectTitle":"Civil War Classroom Book Set","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Zac","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9627991"},{"teacherId":9569946,"projectId":8969734,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. \r\n\r\nThe students returned from winter break to a much warmer classroom, lit with gentle lighting that makes our space feel cozy and inviting.
