When the STEM materials arrived, my kindergarteners could hardly contain their excitement. They immediately began exploring, asking questions, and sharing ideas with one another. What I love most is watching them think out loud as they build, test, and redesign their creations.\r\nWe have been using the materials during our STEM centers and small group rotations. Students are learning to plan before they build, work cooperatively with partners, and solve problems when something does not go as expected. I recently gave them a simple challenge to build a structure that could stand on its own. At first many towers fell, but instead of giving up, they adjusted their designs and tried again. They are developing perseverance, confidence, and critical thinking skills that will support them far beyond kindergarten.\r\nMoving forward, we will continue integrating these materials into math and science lessons.
